U.S. Bluecore Energy Raises $50 Million to Advance Floating Small Modular Reactors
On September 8, 2026, U.S.-based Bluecore Energy announced the completion of a $50 million seed financing round to accelerate the development, testing, and deployment of its floating nuclear energy systems. Bluecore Energy is developing small modular water-cooled reactors that can operate on floating barges, with target applications including ports, utilities, data centers, offshore infrastructure, and communities facing energy shortages.

The round was led by Silverton Partners, with existing investor Slauson & Co continuing its participation, alongside Harlem Capital, Precursor Ventures, LMNT, Visible Hands VC, Karman Ventures, and others. Bluecore Energy stated that this financing represents a significant expansion on its initial $10 million pre-seed round. The company exited stealth mode and officially launched on July 21.
Bluecore Energy's headquarters and development operations base are located at the Port of Long Beach, California. Since its official launch, Bluecore Energy has acquired its first barge and transported the barge and electric test reactor to its Long Beach headquarters, while continuing to advance engineering development and component testing for its first offshore nuclear energy system.
The first system Bluecore Energy is developing has a power output of 10 megawatts, designed to supply electricity for approximately 15,000 households, with the capability to be scaled up to meet the power demands of large ports. According to the design, the system can operate for multiple years on a single fuel load, and the reactors can be paired in combinations to scale up capacity. The barges are mobile and can be moored or anchored in a manner similar to offshore oil and gas facilities, delivering power to users such as ports via submarine cables.
Bluecore Energy stated that the new financing will be used for engineering and hardware development of the first system, testing and validation, regulatory and classification certification efforts, manufacturing, hiring, and deployment advancement. Bluecore Energy is also progressing in its engagement and review processes with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
Bluecore Energy founder and CEO Kofi Asante stated that six months ago the company was still in the infrastructure-building stage, and it now has the capital, team, and hardware in place, while advancing collaboration with relevant organizations in the nuclear and maritime sectors. He noted that Bluecore Energy's goal is to deliver zero-emission energy as quickly as possible while ensuring safety.
In July 2026, the Port of Long Beach signed a memorandum of cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (MARAD) to explore potential integration of offshore energy systems, including small modular reactors (SMRs), port microgrids, shore power infrastructure, and advanced ship propulsion technologies. Bluecore Energy stated that the Port of Long Beach is one of its current priority application scenarios, and it has also received expressions of interest from other ports, artificial intelligence data centers, and communities in need of clean energy and water resources.
