Recently, at the 29th meeting of the Working Group on Accident Analysis and Management (WGAMA) of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), the Severe Accident International Benchmark (ISP—54), carefully organized and coordinated by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and jointly proposed by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., was officially approved.

The project brings together top institutions from China, Sweden, Germany, Canada and other countries, integrates core resources in the field of in-vessel melt pool research, and is the world's first international benchmark focusing on in-vessel melt pool research for severe reactor accidents. Since taking the lead in launching international promotion in 2024, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center has maintained close interaction with domestic units and actively communicated and coordinated with the NEA, providing solid support for the project's smooth approval.

The WGAMA working group under the Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) is a core platform for technical exchange in the field of nuclear safety. As the Chinese representative, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center has long been deeply involved in the working group's activities, and many of its achievements have been widely applied in nuclear power engineering construction, safety analysis software development, and optimization of nuclear safety standards. The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center continues to play a bridging role by inviting international experts for exchanges, compiling strategic roadmaps, and other means to precisely align with frontier developments, coordinate domestic high-quality resources, and effectively promote the alignment of China's nuclear safety research system with international advanced standards.

Next, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center will base itself on its primary responsibilities, continue to coordinate and advance the deep participation of domestic research entities in international research cooperation, and deepen practical collaborative innovation with authoritative international nuclear energy organizations. At the same time, it will actively share China's practical experience in nuclear safety regulatory review, help build a new global nuclear energy development pattern that is safe, efficient, mutually beneficial and win-win, and contribute to the safe, sustainable and high-quality development of the world's nuclear energy cause.
