Nuvora Completes Independent Review of Pre-Feasibility Study for 300 MWth High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor Hydrogen Production
Nuvora Energy, Inc., a U.S. developer of advanced modular nuclear energy and clean hydrogen infrastructure, announced on August 3 that it has completed a pre-feasibility study for the integration of a 300 MWth prismatic high-temperature gas-cooled reactor with a solid oxide electrolyzer cell hydrogen island, along with an independent third-party review conducted by DBD International.

The pre-feasibility study report, titled "Pre-Feasibility Study for Integrated Power Generation and Hydrogen Production Using a 300 MWth High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor," was released in May 2026, with revision number R01. DBD International was commissioned to conduct an independent review of the study and issued its review report, revision B, on May 20, 2026, with the assessment scope covering technical, licensing, and commercial aspects.
Nuvora stated that the review identified no direct technical or regulatory "fatal flaws." The company believes that the results of the study at this stage can provide a basis for its consideration of proceeding to a full feasibility study. Following the completion of the review, Nuvora plans to initiate the next phase of development work, including pre-conceptual design, conceptual design, and concurrently advance the full feasibility study.
Shivam Tewari, Chief Executive Officer of Nuvora, stated that the completion of the pre-feasibility study and the independent review has laid the foundation for the company's advancement of subsequent development. DBD International conducted an external assessment of the technical approach, licensing pathway, and commercial framework, and the review has helped clarify the scope of the next phase of work, as well as the evidence that needs to be further collected as the project progresses.
According to the company's statement, this independent review constitutes an assurance milestone aligned with the project stage, and is not a financing document, final investment decision document, licensing approval, or bank financing feasibility study, nor does it substitute for authorization from regulatory authorities in specific countries or regions. Issues not resolved in the pre-feasibility study will be incorporated into the routine development work of the next phase.
Nuvora stated that its proposed platform is positioned as a flexible energy system. The 300 MWth prismatic high-temperature gas-cooled reactor will be used to provide high-quality thermal energy for power generation and, when commercial conditions permit, supply high-temperature steam and electricity to the solid oxide electrolyzer cell hydrogen island. The platform is planned to maintain adjustment capability between electricity output and hydrogen production based on customer demand, contractual arrangements, and market conditions.
The company also stated that potential output pathways, including hydrogen, industrial heat, and oxygen byproducts, still require further engineering design, site selection, market validation, offtake agreement arrangements, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Its development strategy is to adopt and validate mature high-temperature gas-cooled reactor building blocks, while retaining key interface intellectual property related to safety, manufacturability, maintainability, licensing, and replicable deployment.
The next phase of work is expected to include pre-conceptual design studies, project-specific engineering definition, a full feasibility study, and ongoing technical, safety, regulatory, and commercial justification. Nuvora noted that project schedule targets remain contingent upon funding availability, technical team assembly, supplier data acquisition, and the completion of engineering and quality assurance work.
