Westinghouse and Amentum Expand Cooperation to Support Scaled Deployment of APX Technology Platform

Westinghouse Electric Company announced on August 4 that it has reached a series of agreements with Amentum to expand cooperation around Westinghouse's APX technology platform, enhance the scaled deployment capability of AP1000 reactors, and advance the development and licensing of the AP300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR).

Under the agreements, the two companies will collaborate to advance AP300 SMR regulatory approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Westinghouse stated that obtaining regulatory approval is a critical step for AP300's market entry, and Amentum's engineering capabilities and nuclear project experience will support these efforts.

Dan Sumner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westinghouse Electric Company, stated that Westinghouse is advancing its APX technology strategy, built on the mature AP1000 technology base and extending to the AP300 Small Modular Reactor. The cooperation between the two companies will help accelerate the AP300 licensing process and strengthen Westinghouse's engineering and project execution capabilities to support large-scale delivery of gigawatt-class reactors.

John Heller, Chief Executive Officer of Amentum, stated that the company possesses engineering and technical experience across the full lifecycle of nuclear projects, and the cooperation between the two companies will serve the development and deployment of advanced nuclear technologies while responding to growing global demand for reliable baseload power.

The Westinghouse APX strategy supports the deployment of both AP1000 reactors and AP300 Small Modular Reactors through a unified technology platform. The platform leverages the mature technology foundation of AP1000 nuclear plants, including engineering design, equipment components, licensing strategy, fuel design, and supply chain systems. Westinghouse plans to meet near-term global market demand with the commercially deployable AP1000 reactor while developing the AP300 to address markets with smaller power demand scales or different application scenarios.

Westinghouse Electric Company and Amentum have previously collaborated on nuclear projects in multiple countries, involving nuclear construction and decommissioning-related projects in the United States, the United Kingdom, Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania, and South Africa.
