Hyundai E&C Joins Forces with Westinghouse to Sign Pre-FEED Contract for Two Large Nuclear Power Units in the Netherlands
Hyundai E&C recently announced that it has formally signed a subcontract with Westinghouse of the United States for Phase 1 Front-End Engineering Design (FEED 1) of the Netherlands' new large nuclear power plant project.

The contract derives from the FEED 1 main contract awarded to Westinghouse by the Nuclear Energy Organization Netherlands (NEO NL). As a key engineering partner of Westinghouse, Hyundai E&C will focus on two gigawatt-scale large nuclear power units adopting Westinghouse's AP1000 advanced pressurized water reactor technology, comprehensively carrying out front-end engineering design and integrated project assessment work.
According to the division of work, Hyundai E&C will be primarily responsible for technical feasibility review of candidate sites, preparation of the Master Plan, and formulation of the EPC execution strategy. At the same time, Hyundai E&C will work closely with Westinghouse to conduct in-depth analysis of Dutch local laws and regulations, nuclear safety licensing review requirements, and European technical codes and standards, comprehensively assess potential project engineering risks, and develop a supply chain localization plan.
The Nuclear Energy Organization Netherlands (NEO NL) is a state-owned entity specially established by the Dutch government to coordinate the implementation of new nuclear power projects. In order to ensure a stable supply of national baseload electricity and achieve carbon neutrality targets on schedule, the Dutch government is fully advancing its large-scale nuclear new-build program and is currently conducting detailed technical and environmental impact assessments of candidate sites. Westinghouse has previously been shortlisted as one of the finalist technology suppliers for the Netherlands' nuclear new-build project, and will work closely with Hyundai E&C to advance subsequent detailed design in light of specific site constraints.
To solidify the foundation for project implementation, Hyundai E&C continues to deepen industrial ecosystem collaboration in the Netherlands. In June of this year, the company co-hosted the "Netherlands Suppliers Symposium" locally with Westinghouse, engaging in in-depth exchanges with Dutch government authorities, industry representatives, and nuclear supply chain companies on supply chain cooperation mechanisms.
A representative of Hyundai E&C stated that participation in the Netherlands' FEED 1 phase will not only strongly support the smooth advancement of the country's nuclear new-build project, but will also establish a highly competitive first-mover advantage for Hyundai E&C in the subsequent EPC construction general contracting tender; leveraging the company's accumulated construction and design capabilities in the field of large nuclear power units, Hyundai E&C will use this as a fulcrum to continuously pursue more strategic incremental opportunities against the backdrop of Europe's nuclear renaissance.
