World's only floating nuclear power plant completes WANO scheduled peer review.

Russia's floating nuclear power plant recently completed a scheduled peer review organized by the Moscow Centre of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). The plant is operated by Rosenergoatom, the electric power division of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom.

The assessment spanned two weeks. Thirteen experts from international organizations inspected the floating power unit *Akademik Lomonosov*, located in Pevek, to evaluate the alignment of its operational management with international best practices. The peer review also covered the plant's independent support organization based in St. Petersburg and involved participation from Chinese representatives.

During the assessment, the expert team observed operator performance on-site and reviewed technical documentation, focusing on key areas such as operational organization, maintenance, engineering support, radiation protection, operating experience feedback, and emergency preparedness. The findings indicated that while there were still areas requiring improvement, the number of issues identified was lower than during the previous assessment in 2022.

Viktor Yelagin, the head of the floating nuclear power plant, stated that the results demonstrate the plant is approaching the performance levels of Russia's leading nuclear power plants in terms of safety and operational management. He noted that the outcome reflects the ongoing efforts of management and staff to improve operational activities and maintain a strong safety culture.
