Science and Technology Professionals from Hong Kong and Macao Visit Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant to Deepen Collaborative Public Education on Nuclear Safety in the Greater Bay Area

Recently, the themed event "Beautiful China, Volunteering with Me—Nuclear Safety Safeguards a Better Life," hosted by the China Association for the Promotion of Nuclear Safety and Environmental Culture and organized by Yangjiang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., concluded successfully at the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Base. A joint delegation comprising the Hong Kong Institute of Construction and the Macau Institution of Engineers visited the base. Through on-site inspections and professional exchanges, they observed the achievements of my country's nuclear power industry firsthand and gained deep insight into the foundation of nuclear safety culture and the results of green development in clean energy.

At the start of the event, the delegation visited the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Public Information Center and the Nuclear Safety Culture Promotion Studio—two key hubs for education and outreach—to learn about the company's distinctive initiatives in science popularization and the cultivation of a nuclear safety culture. The tour was guided by Chen Siqin, a frontline volunteer "dialect-speaking guide." With extensive experience in grassroots Party affairs, rural cultural tourism, and nuclear power education, she leads a professional team of guides and regularly conducts educational tours, outreach presentations, and tourism promotions, fostering a deep integration and mutual empowerment between local fishing culture, coastal tourism resources, and nuclear power education. Through her vivid and accessible explanations, combined with immersive experiences such as smart robot demonstrations and interactive full-scope simulator sessions, the delegation gained a systematic understanding of nuclear power unit operating principles, smart O&M (operations and maintenance) models, and the comprehensive safety control system.

Subsequently, the delegation toured core operational areas, including the production command center and smart warehousing facilities. The highly intelligent, precise, and efficient digital closed-loop O&M management system vividly demonstrated the robust strength of my country's nuclear power industry in its smart and modernized development.

During the on-site observation phase, the delegation conducted a field survey of the peripheral operational areas of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Units 1 and 2 and ascended a 70-meter-high observation platform to take in a panoramic view of the base. The large-scale layout, standardized construction, refined O&M management, and comprehensive safety control system of the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Base powerfully showcased the formidable capability and magnificent scale of this major national strategic asset. Representatives from the China Association for the Promotion of Nuclear Safety and Environmental Culture stated that this event represents a beneficial exploration and vivid example of collaborative nuclear energy science popularization and the sharing of technological resources within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, serving as a vital platform for high-quality exchange in the nuclear power sector between the mainland and the two special administrative regions. Representatives from Yangjiang Nuclear Power warmly welcomed the visiting delegation from Hong Kong and Macao, expressing hope that the event would act as a bridge to establish a platform for regular communication and collaboration between the mainland's nuclear power industry and the scientific and technological communities of Hong Kong and Macao. They aim to further enhance understanding and recognition across various sectors in Hong Kong and Macao regarding the nation's nuclear power development and the construction of its nuclear safety governance system, while deepening practical cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy science popularization, technological innovation, and talent exchange.

Representatives of the visiting delegation remarked that this immersive visit allowed them to witness firsthand the fruitful achievements and leading capabilities of my country's nuclear power industry—particularly in the independent innovation of core technologies, the refined regulation of nuclear safety, and the collaborative ecological protection associated with nuclear power operations. They look forward to leveraging the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to deepen practical cooperation across multiple fields—including science popularization, technological innovation, talent cultivation, and volunteer activities. Their goal is to build broad societal consensus in support of clean energy development, facilitate the region's green and low-carbon transition, and steadily advance the realization of the "dual carbon" goals.
