2026 Technical Exchange Conference on Key Issues in Nuclear Accident Safety Analysis Successfully Held in Shenzhen

To further enhance the level of emergency technical support for nuclear power plants, consolidate nuclear safety barriers, and promote the development of industry technical standards, the "2026 Technical Exchange Conference on Key Issues in Nuclear Accident Safety Analysis" was recently held in Shenzhen. The conference was hosted by the Nuclear Safety Branch of the Chinese Nuclear Society and co-organized by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Nuclear Emergency and Rescue Center of China General Nuclear Power Group, and the China Nuclear Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. More than 60 experts and young research professionals from China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNPE), Nuclear Power Institute of China, Nuclear Power Operation Research Institute, CNNC Nuclear Operation & Maintenance Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., Tsinghua University, Huaneng Shandong Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., and other organizations gathered together to conduct in-depth discussions on key issues in nuclear emergency accident analysis.

Nuclear emergency response is the last line of defense in the defense-in-depth system of nuclear safety. Emergency accident analysis, by systematically evaluating various real-time operating parameters of the unit, accurately obtains critical information such as core damage status and radioactive source term environmental release conditions, and serves as the core basis for protective action decision-making under accident conditions.

This conference closely focused on the theme of "Nuclear Emergency Reactor Accident Analysis," centering on the implementation pathways and methodological differences of key technologies such as accident condition diagnosis and trend prediction, core damage assessment, and rapid source term calculation. During the event, participating organizations delivered 13 special reports and conducted exchange discussions, systematically reviewing the common difficult issues currently faced by the industry in areas such as emergency accident analysis methods, calculation program models, key parameter selection, and condition settings. Meanwhile, practical experience and innovative achievements in emergency accident analysis for small modular reactors and advanced reactors, as well as innovative applications of artificial intelligence, were shared.

This event effectively established an industry platform for technical exchange and resource sharing, strengthened thematic communication among participating organizations, and further consolidated and deepened the integrated collaborative innovation mechanism of "industry-academia-research-application." In the next steps, relevant organizations will focus on tackling key common issues, consolidate industry technical consensus, and continuously improve and optimize nuclear emergency technical standards. Relying on solid fundamental research and computational analysis, they will build scientifically feasible technical solutions to comprehensively enhance China's nuclear power plant emergency accident analysis and assessment capabilities.
