KN Energies joins Baltic Energy Initiative
Lithuanian international energy terminal operator KN Energies announced on September 3 that it has joined the Baltic Energy Initiative launched by Poland's ORLEN Group. The initiative currently brings together 14 energy companies and institutions from 9 countries in Northern and Central Europe, with plans to enhance energy security, infrastructure resilience, and industrial competitiveness in the Baltic Sea region through regional cooperation.

Under the relevant arrangements, the Baltic Energy Initiative will serve as a cross-border cooperation platform, promoting the sharing of professional expertise among members and the joint development of energy projects with regional impact. Key areas of cooperation include offshore wind, liquefied natural gas and bio-LNG market integration, regional hydrogen market development, carbon transport and storage, as well as small modular reactor development. Participants will also jointly seek EU project funding and other international financing support.
The institutions signing the agreement come from Poland, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Norway. In addition to KN Energies and ORLEN Group, participants include Eesti Energia, Enefit, Fortum, DNV Energy Systems, Topsoe, Siemens Energy, Adven, Steady Energy, P2X Solutions, Latvenergo, Gasgrid Finland, and Vestas.
The initiative will also promote the formation of common positions among members on regulatory matters, investment arrangements, and support mechanisms for strategic projects, enabling a more consolidated expression of regional energy industry needs in communications with relevant European institutions. Members believe that coordinated alignment will help unlock the Baltic Sea region's development potential in clean energy, low-carbon fuels, and advanced nuclear energy technologies.
Energy infrastructure protection is also part of the cooperation. Participants will exchange experience in areas such as critical infrastructure protection, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness, and responses to physical and hybrid threats, while jointly assessing projects and potential financing channels that could enhance the resilience of energy systems.
