On September 23, China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) officially convened the 2026 Science and Technology Innovation Conference, systematically planning and coordinating key tasks for nuclear basic research and original innovation. The conference brought together Sun Changpu, Ye Guoan, Liu Weiping, and Li Jun, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Hu Shilin, Wang Hualin, and Su Guanghui, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; as well as representatives from research and industrial units including CNNC and Aerospace Software. Three independently developed innovative scientific and technological achievements were released on site: the “Yundian” Product Data Management System N-PDM, the “Anluan-R” Radiation-Resistant Inspection Robot, and the “Antai-W1” Smart Radiation Monitoring Watch.

To build a source of original innovation in the nuclear field, CIAE, centering on major national strategic needs, established its first batch of three basic research special zones——the Nuclear Physics Frontier Science Basic Research Special Zone, the Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry Basic Research Special Zone, and the New Quality and New Domain Nuclear Energy Basic Research Special Zone. Each special zone fully implements the Chief Scientist System, granting teams a high degree of autonomous management authority, adopting a resource allocation model that combines stable support with competitive support, and focusing on the world's nuclear science and technology frontiers to carry out disruptive technology research and exploration of entirely new scientific research paradigms.

In the equipment and software product release session, three independently developed products that fill industry gaps were unveiled together. As China's first independently controllable product data management system for the nuclear engineering field, the “Yundian” N-PDM (N-PDM) was developed by CIAE in collaboration with China Nuclear Power Information and Aerospace Software over two years, achieving replacement and upgrading of imported PDM industrial software; the system connects the full lifecycle data chain of “requirements, functions, logic, physics, procurement and manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and operations and maintenance,” possesses full-process control functions including engineering design, BOM materials, and decommissioning management, and fills the gap in the underlying foundation of nuclear industry digitalization.

Targeting high-radiation extreme operating environments, the “Anluan-R” Radiation-Resistant Inspection Robot (Anluan-R Radiation-resistant Inspection Robot) achieved a core technology breakthrough in key equipment. The research and development team abandoned the traditional heavy metal physical shielding approach and adopted a multi-level radiation hardening scheme covering chips, circuits, and systems. The complete machine can withstand cumulative radiation doses of up to 15,000 gray (Gy), effectively solving the difficulties of passage through narrow spaces and failure of optical imaging. It features redundant wired and wireless dual-channel communication and has already been demonstrated and applied in nuclear facility operation and maintenance, decommissioning and disposal, and emergency response scenarios.

The third released product, the “Antai-W1” Smart Radiation Monitoring Watch (Antai-W1 Smart Radiation Monitoring Watch), promotes professional radiation protection equipment toward lightweight and portable development. The device is equipped with a dedicated radiation detection chip independently developed and mass-produced by CIAE, can display environmental and operational dose rates in real time and dynamically, and immediately triggers a physical vibration alarm when radiation values exceed standards; the watch also integrates multi-dimensional daily health monitoring functions, and can serve not only on-site inspection and protection at nuclear-related sites but also be widely promoted in diverse scenarios such as nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment, home building materials monitoring, and nuclear emergency response.
