New Dawn for the Dutch Province of Zeeland: Borssele and Vlissingen May Welcome New Nuclear Power Plants
The Dutch government is seriously considering the construction of new nuclear power plants in the Borssele and Vlissingen areas. Although other locations were initially taken into consideration, these two towns in the province of Zeeland have emerged as potential frontrunners due to their well-developed infrastructure and convenient connections to the existing electricity grid. The plan aims to help the Netherlands achieve its climate goals, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and ensure the stability and sustainability of the national energy supply. The advisory body responsible for evaluating potential nuclear power plant sites has submitted a preliminary report to the government. This report provides a detailed analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each candidate location, including, in addition to Borssele and Vlissingen, several other regions...

To further improve the national certification assessment for radiation monitoring personnel, the Radiation Environmental Monitoring Technical Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently organized an on-site certification assessment for radiation monitoring institutions in Southwest China in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. A total of 52 technical personnel from three institutions participated in the assessment: the Southwest Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the Southwest Supervision Station), the Tibet Autonomous Region Radiation Environment Supervision Station (hereinafter referred to as the Tibet Radiation Station), and the Sichuan Provincial Radiation Environment Management and Monitoring Center Station (hereinafter referred to as the Sichuan Radiation Station). The assessment team strictly controlled the assessment process in accordance with the provisions of the "Implementation Rules for Certification Assessment of Radiation Environmental Monitoring Technical Personnel." The assessment...

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), under the US Department of Energy, is advancing a new Californium-252 (Cf-252) separation process to address growing market demand. The laboratory stated that this process, developed over nearly a decade of research, is expected to shorten the Cf-252 production cycle by about one week, significantly improving processing efficiency without altering product quality. Californium-252 is a neutron-emitting radioisotope used in nuclear reactor startup, fuel testing for new reactors, as well as in oil well logging, coal analysis, port security, fuel rod scanners, and instrument calibration. ORNL noted that it is the only producer of Cf-252 in the Western world...

On August 3, the Radiation Chemistry and Environmental Qualification Department of ÚJV Řež stated that it had completed irradiation testing of cable samples for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) research team within a relatively short period, and submitted the test results required for subsequent research. The purpose of this testing was to confirm whether the relevant material samples could maintain reliable performance under high-radiation environments. ÚJV Řež has long been engaged in environmental qualification and cable lifetime management, with capabilities in radiation aging, thermal aging simulation, and testing of material mechanical and electrical properties. Through these tests, researchers can assess the tolerance limits of materials in harsh environments, providing a basis for equipment selection, operation and maintenance, and subsequent experiments...

IsoEnergy Ltd. and DISA Technologies, Inc. have entered into a definitive agreement to jointly establish DISA Uranium™ Corporation, building a technology-driven U.S. uranium production, processing, and remediation platform. The platform will combine conventional uranium mining assets, uranium recovery operations, and DISA's proprietary High-Pressure Slurry Ablation processing technology (HPSA™) to serve U.S. domestic nuclear fuel supply needs. Under the agreement, IsoEnergy will transfer its portfolio of licensed and previously producing uranium mine projects located in Utah, U.S., to DISA Uranium, including the Tony M Mine, Daneros Mine, Rim Mine, Sage Plain Project, and Flatir...

Key progress has been made in the construction of the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) in Beijing Huairou Science City. The latest tests show that the facility's brightness and storage ring beam orbit stability have both met design requirements, bringing it one step closer to full operation. These two indicators directly determine whether the light source can provide stable, high-quality X-ray beams for scientific users, and are also core parameters in facility performance evaluation. Since the accelerator met acceptance indicators on September 29, 2025, the project team has continuously calibrated equipment and optimized beam conditions during trial operation. After approximately nine months of improvements, the facility's key performance has been significantly enhanced. The storage ring can be understood as a circular track for high-energy electrons, with a total circumference of approximately 1,360 meters. 177...

Samsung Electronics' medical device business and Samsung Medison continue to shift their business focus from medical diagnostics to treatment. On August 5, Samsung HME America and U.S. radiosurgery company Accuray announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent to explore collaboration on volume imaging-based precision radiation therapy solutions. Under the letter of intent, the two parties plan to study the integration of Samsung's mobile CT scanner BodyTom with Accuray's robotic radiosurgery platform CyberKnife. This collaboration direction aims to connect high-resolution 3D imaging capabilities with image-guided robotic radiosurgery technology, enabling medical staff to more accurately identify...

Poland's uranium exploration has recently yielded results, with Świętokrzyska Grupa Przemysłowa Industria announcing the conclusion of uranium exploration near Kielce. Although reports two years ago suggested a breakthrough uranium discovery that could potentially bring Poland into the nuclear fuel supply sector, subsequent studies revealed that uranium concentrations in the area are extremely low, close to natural background levels and far below the threshold for economically viable extraction. Laboratory analysis results indicated that uranium and thorium concentrations in the ore are too low for commercial mining, leading the company to terminate further exploration. According to data from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the world's major...
