The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Successfully Held a Technical Seminar on Performance Testing of Iodine Adsorbers in Nuclear Facilities

Recently, the technical seminar on "Performance Testing of Iodine Adsorbers in Nuclear Facilities," hosted by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") and organized by the Key Laboratory of Radioactive Gas Purification Technology of CNNC, was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. Representatives from domestic nuclear facility operation, design, testing and inspection organizations, as well as relevant personnel from the Center's Reactor Department, Event Assessment Department, and General Operations Department attended the meeting.

The seminar focused on core topics such as periodic testing methods for iodine adsorbers in ventilation systems of nuclear facilities, acceptance criteria, and test cycle requirements under long-term operation. Participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on pain points and difficulties in design and operation, including the comparison of advantages and disadvantages between radioactive and non-radioactive test methods for iodine adsorber adsorption efficiency, the conversion of adsorption efficiency between 2-inch and 4-inch carbon beds, regulatory requirements for test cycles, and management measures for non-compliant adsorption efficiency. The academic atmosphere was strong and the discussions were lively.

The seminar achieved its expected objectives: first, it established a platform for industry information sharing and technical exchange; second, it coordinated the strengths of the industry to jointly promote the resolution of common technical challenges; third, it facilitated the promotion and application of good practices within the industry; and fourth, it tracked the implementation of cutting-edge new technologies in the industry. The meeting emphasized that all relevant organizations should enhance their political awareness, maintain a work style of "strictness, prudence, meticulousness, and practicality," firmly establish the bottom-line thinking of nuclear safety, solidly support the technological underpinnings of nuclear power development, and ensure high-quality development through high-level safety.
