Unit 2 of Romania's Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant is expected to operate for only about five days due to the declining water level of the Danube River. Romeo Urjan, the plant's director, stated that if the Danube's water level continues to drop at a rate of 2 to 3 centimeters per day, Unit 2 will soon cease operation.

Unit 1 has already been shut down due to insufficient water flow. Urjan emphasized that despite this, Unit 2 continues to operate within normal parameters, and nuclear safety is not under any threat.

To alleviate the situation, relevant authorities are preparing to deploy four barges to divert more water to the plant, hoping to raise the water level by 7 to 8 centimeters, thereby extending the plant's operating time. Personnel are closely monitoring all indicators and holding daily meetings to assess the evolving situation. It is worth noting that the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant encountered a similar situation in 2003, when Unit 1 was forced to shut down for one month due to the extremely low water level of the Danube.

Currently, the plant's management is actively seeking solutions to ensure energy supply and nuclear safety. They hope to maintain the stable operation of Unit 2 by increasing water supply and avoid repeating the 2003 experience. The cause of the current decline in the Danube's water level has not yet been determined, but the persistent drought conditions are likely one of the main factors.

The plant emphasized that it will continue to closely monitor water level changes and the operational status of the plant, taking timely countermeasures to ensure public safety and stable energy supply. Relevant authorities are also actively developing contingency plans for potential power shortages to minimize the impact on residents' daily lives and the economy.
