Morehead State University Receives $50,000 Grant to Support Nuclear Medicine Technology Bachelor's Program

Morehead State University in the United States recently received a $50,000 grant to strengthen its Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology program, supporting the university's efforts to train medical imaging professionals for Kentucky's healthcare system.

The funding was provided by the Kentucky Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy and administered by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. The project funds were awarded through a competitive bidding process, with a focus on supporting nuclear medicine technology education programs in Kentucky, aiming to increase the number of qualified professionals entering the state's healthcare industry.

The newly established nuclear medicine technology undergraduate program under Morehead State University's Department of Imaging Sciences will train students in the medical imaging field to use radioactive substances for disease diagnosis and assessment. According to the program plan, students will learn about radiopharmaceutical applications and advanced imaging procedures, and acquire corresponding practical skills through clinical training, supporting physicians in detecting diseases, evaluating conditions, and formulating treatment plans.

Jennifer Clark, Assistant Professor of Imaging Sciences and Program Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at the university, stated that the new undergraduate program will offer a bachelor's degree in imaging sciences with a focus on nuclear medicine and positron emission tomography technology, training students to use radioactive isotopes for disease diagnosis.

The university stated that this grant will support the continued development of the program and help the institution welcome its first cohort of students. As medical imaging courses continue to expand, Morehead State University will continue to supply professional talent to the healthcare industry in Kentucky and the surrounding region.
