LG Electronics Launches FDA-Approved 40-Inch Diagnostic Monitor for B2B Medical Imaging Market
LG Electronics announced on August 12 that it has launched a new 40-inch diagnostic monitor, the "40HT513D," targeting the business-to-business (B2B) medical display market. The product has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is primarily intended for medical image interpretation scenarios.

According to the company, the 40HT513D features a curved IPS black panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 5120×2160, delivering approximately 11 million pixels. LG Electronics stated that this design consolidates image reading tasks that previously required three 3-megapixel monitors into a single screen. Physicians can simultaneously view and compare current and historical images from X-ray, CT scans, and MRI scans, as well as electronic medical record (EMR) information, on the same display.
The monitor is equipped with a "3PBP (3-Picture By Picture)" feature that divides the screen into three zones, each displaying a different video source. LG Electronics noted that this design helps reduce the visual disruption caused by bezels when multiple monitors are arranged side by side, and also lessens the eye movement burden on physicians when switching between different screens.
Chung Seung-eun, Vice President of Medical Affairs at The Catholic University of Korea Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital and President of the Korean Society of Radiology, stated after trialing the product for approximately seven weeks that the large bezel-less display facilitates efficient viewing of multiple images with no noticeable boundaries between screens, and that the curved display also improves the image reading environment.
In terms of operational features, the 40HT513D includes a built-in KVM switch, allowing users to control two computers with a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Users can switch between computers simply by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen, and files can be transferred via drag-and-drop.
The product also features a detachable calibration sensor for managing screen brightness and contrast. The sensor tip is typically stored inside the unit and can be extended when calibration for medical image interpretation or performance measurement is required. Since the sensor is detachable, it also facilitates easier maintenance.
On the software side, the new monitor supports a "Focus View" feature that allows users to highlight regions of interest and dim the rest of the screen using a mouse and keyboard. A "Pathology Mode" adjusts resolution and color settings to enable clearer observation of pathological structures such as cells.
Additionally, multiple diagnostic monitors installed in hospitals can be managed remotely through "LG Calibration Studio Medical." This software performs quality control tests in compliance with relevant standards and uploads the results to a central server. If any anomalies are detected, the system sends notifications to administrators.
Lee Choong-hwan, Vice President and Head of the Display Business at LG Electronics, stated that the company will continue to strengthen its FDA-approved diagnostic monitor product line to enhance its competitiveness in the B2B medical display market.
