Leshan Accelerates Construction of Medical Isotope Production Base to Promote Domestic Substitution of "Anti-Cancer Nuclear Drugs"

On August 11, at the Leshan special press conference of "Myriad Scenes in Sichuan · Embarking on the '15th Five-Year Plan'", Leshan Mayor Zhao Yingchun stated that Leshan is accelerating the construction of the largest and most comprehensive medical isotope production base in China. Upon completion, the project will help break the foreign monopoly and import dependence on related products, promote the domestic substitution of "anti-cancer nuclear drugs", and enable more patients to access domestically produced drugs with lower prices and better efficacy.

Zhao Yingchun noted that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Leshan has focused on building the "China Green Silicon Valley", a world-class tourist destination, and a major regional transportation and logistics hub in the province, continuously promoting high-quality development, with its economic output surpassing 250 billion yuan.

Looking toward the "15th Five-Year Plan", Leshan will build a high-level regional central city, focusing on creating innovation hubs for photovoltaic energy storage and green chemicals, a world-class tourist destination, a regional transportation and logistics hub, a high-quality livable and business-friendly city, and the new Jiazhou countryside. The city expects an average annual economic growth rate of approximately 5.5%, with its economic output reaching the 300 billion yuan threshold.

In terms of industrial development, Leshan will push the photovoltaic energy storage and green chemicals industries toward the 100-billion-yuan scale, while extending, strengthening, and supplementing the industrial chains of distinctive sectors such as advanced building materials, nuclear technology applications, and rare earth new materials, cultivating industrial clusters with distinctive characteristics.

Zhao Yingchun specifically mentioned that Leshan, leveraging its abundant reactor irradiation resources, is accelerating the deployment of medical isotope production capacity. In the future, Leshan hopes to further form an advanced industrial cluster supported by nuclear technology applications on the basis of the "China Green Silicon Valley".
