Bruce Power Aims to Generate Over CAD 13.3 Billion in Economic Impact in Canada Over Next 18 Months

Bruce Power recently stated that over the next 18 months, the company expects to generate more than CAD 13.3 billion in economic impact across Canada, with related investments primarily stemming from its nuclear plant operations and life extension programs, supporting businesses and jobs in Ontario and other regions of Canada.

Bruce Power stated that since launching the "Canada First" program in 2025, the company has invested over CAD 6.6 billion in Canada between January 2025 and June 2026, and plans to invest an additional CAD 7.7 billion by the end of 2027. The company noted that its spending within Canada accounts for more than 95% of total expenditures.

As a nuclear operator based in Bruce County, Ontario, Bruce Power is primarily responsible for supplying nuclear power to Ontario while also producing isotopes used in the medical field. The company stated that its economic analysis shows that for every CAD 1 invested, it generates over CAD 1.70 in economic benefits for Canada, with the majority of these benefits realized in Ontario.

On the supply chain front, Bruce Power stated that over the past 18 months, it has signed agreements worth more than CAD 2.7 billion with Canadian suppliers, covering engineered cables, steel and aluminum products, critical valves, instrumentation, and on-site support. The company also noted that it has invested over CAD 3.8 billion in the Clean Energy Frontier region encompassing Bruce County, Grey County, and Huron County over the past 18 months, and expects to invest an additional CAD 4 billion in these three counties over the next 18 months.

In addition to nuclear operations and life extension projects, Bruce Power continues to advance medical isotope production. The company has produced sterilization-grade cobalt-60 since 1986, medical-grade cobalt-60 since 2019, and lutetium-177 since 2022, with a goal of doubling Canada's isotope production capacity by 2030.

Regarding cobalt-60, Bruce Power stated that since 2025, it has extracted cobalt-60 from two reactor units, including the largest batch of cobalt-60 in the company's history extracted from Unit 5 in 2025. This cobalt-60 will be used by Nordion for sterilizing medical products, including heart valves, vascular stents, artificial joints, tissue-based medical products, and other implantable medical devices. The company plans to conduct three additional extraction and transportation campaigns between now and the end of 2027.

Regarding lutetium-177, Bruce Power stated that in October 2025, the company achieved three consecutive years of production without stockouts. Since 2025, production volumes have been sufficient to support more than 100,000 treatments, with additional capacity available to meet further demand. The company noted that lutetium-177 production grew by more than 50% in 2026, with continued growth expected in 2027.
