US ONE Nuclear Advances 1 GW SMR Project in Louisiana
ONE Nuclear Energy LLC (referred to as “ONE Nuclear”) recently announced that its Amberjack small modular reactor (SMR) project in Louisiana, USA, has entered the technical and environmental assessment phase. The project is planned as a standalone, scalable multi-unit SMR campus targeting an advanced nuclear power generation capacity of up to approximately 1 GW.

ONE Nuclear stated that the final installed capacity, reactor technology pathway, and plant configuration for the Amberjack project have not yet been determined and will depend on subsequent technology down-selection, detailed engineering design, environmental assessment, transmission studies, commercial arrangements, financing, and federal licensing processes. The company previously also announced the Cayman project, a 2.88 GW energy project also located in Louisiana.
After securing site control, ONE Nuclear has completed a series of preliminary development activities for the Amberjack project, including initial nuclear plant siting and constraint analysis, supporting assessment memoranda, site screening reports, and conceptual layout design for the dedicated SMR campus. The company stated that these efforts have transitioned the project from portfolio-level initial screening to a more specific site development phase.
ONE Nuclear also emphasized that the work completed to date remains preliminary and does not represent site approval by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), nor does it equate to a reactor license, environmental permit, or final engineering decisions. The relevant results are primarily intended to support the next phase of development and to establish the sequence of work for subsequent engagement with regulators.
In the next phase, the Amberjack project will focus on advancing site studies required to meet licensing application requirements and preparing for engagement with the NRC and other agencies. Planned work includes land, geotechnical, and environmental site investigations; cooling water and logistics condition assessments; transmission and grid interconnection analyses; and vendor-agnostic SMR technology down-selection.
ONE Nuclear also stated that the company is advancing engagement with local and state-level stakeholders. As the project moves into the site due diligence, technical assessment, and regulatory planning phase, subsequent public engagement activities will be scheduled in conjunction with project progress. The Amberjack project is also part of ONE Nuclear's broader portfolio in energy infrastructure sectors including advanced nuclear power, natural gas generation, solar, and battery energy storage.
