The first nuclear steam turbine roll test for Unit 3 of the Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Power Project (Phase II) was successfully completed.
At 07:56 on July 24, Unit 3 of the Huaneng Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant—the first large-scale pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power project controlled and constructed by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., and the first "Hualong One" nuclear power project in the Hainan Free Trade Port—successfully completed its initial nuclear steam turbine roll test. This milestone lays a solid foundation for subsequent grid connection and commercial operation.

The nuclear steam turbine roll test is a critical step in verifying the mechanical and thermal performance of the turbine-generator unit and serves as a comprehensive assessment of the entire nuclear power project chain, covering design, equipment manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. During the test, the unit smoothly reached and maintained the rated speed of 1,500 rpm. The roll test succeeded on the first attempt; all operational parameters and monitoring signals remained normal, and the unit's operating conditions were stable and under control.
The Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II project utilizes "Hualong One" third-generation PWR technology, which features my country's own intellectual property rights. The project involves the planned construction of two 1.2-gigawatt nuclear power units. Upon completion, the project will generate 18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, save 6.326 million tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 11.68 million tons. It represents the largest power engineering investment project since the inception of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
