Kazakhstan and Russia will jointly formulate a personnel training plan for the Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant.

The Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) recently held a meeting regarding the training of specialists for the nuclear power sector. The meeting was co-chaired by Asset Makhambetov, Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Tatyana Terentyeva, Deputy Director General for Human Resources at Rosatom.

The two sides discussed plans for training specialists for future nuclear power plants and the further development of Kazakhstan's specialized education system. It was agreed that they would jointly formulate a country-specific talent training plan for the Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant, defining the types of specialists and training areas required for the project.

The meeting also focused on the establishment of an Almaty branch of the National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI) and the development of an alliance of flagship universities specializing in nuclear energy and related fields. The parties will jointly draft contracts for professional training in higher and secondary vocational education to support future workforce development.

Additionally, the meeting addressed opportunities for professional development for teachers within the framework of Rosatom projects, as well as the organization of continuing professional education for employees of Kazakhstani nuclear power enterprises.

Terentyeva noted that the project to build Kazakhstan's first large-scale nuclear power plant is at a critical stage regarding the systematic training of local personnel. Rosatom possesses extensive experience in implementing international educational programs and is capable of organizing training for specialists at all levels. She expressed a willingness to collaborate with Kazakhstani partners to leverage best practices and jointly develop a talent training system aligned with the goals of Kazakhstan's national nuclear energy program.
