CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Unit 2 Officially Commences Commercial Operation

On August 3, CGN Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project Unit 2 officially commenced commercial operation, marking the full completion of the Phase I project of the first "Hualong One" self-developed third-generation nuclear power project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Located in Huidong County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project's Phase I includes Units 1 and 2, which received national approval on April 8, 2019. Among them, Unit 1 of the project commenced commercial operation in April this year. The construction team fully leveraged experience from previous "Hualong One" projects, successively completing a series of major engineering milestones including nuclear island main structure construction, equipment installation and commissioning, nuclear fuel loading, first criticality of the reactor, and grid connection for power generation, with steady improvements in project construction quality, safety levels, and construction efficiency.

During the construction of Unit 2, the project team continuously promoted the deep integration of construction technology and digital intelligence. In terms of construction, over 30 major design improvements were completed, significantly reducing risks associated with on-site cross-operations and work at heights. In terms of digital intelligence, the project successively implemented over 40 quick win scenarios, more than 60 digital intelligence applications, and over 40 "digital employees" of Huizhou Company, completing the deployment and application of intelligent equipment including Smart Construction Site 3.0, Digital Command Center, and exoskeleton robots.

Zhang Guoqiang, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of CGN Huizhou Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., stated that with Unit 2 officially meeting commercial operation conditions, the Phase I project of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is now fully completed. Based on the average utilization hours of domestic nuclear power in 2025, the two units are expected to generate 18 billion kWh annually, meeting the production and daily electricity needs of nearly 2 million people for one year, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 16.63 million tons per year, further enhancing the clean energy supply guarantee capacity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
