Rosatom selects SNIIP as chief design organization for radiation control systems, overseeing standardization of radiological instrumentation and import substitution assurance at nuclear facilities
Rosatom has selected the Research Institute of Scientific Instruments (SNIIP) as the chief design organization for radiation control systems. The institute, which is part of Rosatom's automation control and electrical equipment division, has been granted this status for a range of similar products in radiation control equipment and systems, including automated radiation control systems and radiation environment monitoring.

SNIIP's status as chief design organization means it will be responsible for ensuring Russia's technological autonomy in this field and for developing radiation control instruments and systems. SNIIP General Director Alexey Nikitin stated that this recognition is a testament to the years of work, experience, professional skills, and craftsmanship of the institute's employees, all of which have been demonstrated in the process of obtaining this status.
This initiative aims to avoid additional equipment supplies and reduce the diversity of instrumentation through standardization and unification of technical solutions applied at nuclear facilities. Establishing a unified responsibility center for the implementation and maintenance of radiation control instruments will contribute to the formation of typical radiation control system technical projects based on competitive domestic solutions, as well as to the control of equipment construction and manufacturing throughout the entire project lifecycle.
SNIIP's objectives under this status include developing radiation control, creating efficient products, improving research infrastructure for the nuclear instrumentation component base, unifying and standardizing technical solutions, and optimizing the range of control and equipment types. Additionally, it will be responsible for coordinating research and development both within and outside the industry, and for implementing a unified technical policy to ensure Russia's autonomy in the field of nuclear safety.
SNIIP Deputy General Director and Chief Designer Andrey Gordeev noted that an important function of the institute in this capacity is to ensure the safe operation of nuclear facilities in cases where foreign organizations refuse to produce spare parts or provide design documentation. This is crucial for maintaining the stable operation of existing nuclear power plants.
