Argentina's nuclear power generates 4.45 million kWh in half a year, accounting for over 7% of national electricity and meeting the residential electricity needs of 6 million people

Operating data from Nucleoeléctrica Argentina for the first half of 2026 shows that the Atucha 2 and Embalse nuclear power plants generated a combined 4,450,355 kWh, accounting for over 7% of the country's total electricity generation during the period and covering 13% of national residential electricity demand.

Notably, although Atucha 1 is temporarily out of service due to a life extension project, the nuclear plants are still able to supply electricity to approximately 6 million people.

In addition to its operational breakthroughs, Nucleoeléctrica Argentina is also actively expanding its international business. The company has formally established a new business unit aimed at bringing its long-accumulated experience to the international market and transforming it into an export service platform. These services cover multiple areas including nuclear engineering, plant operation and maintenance, specialized inspections, and project management, as well as personnel training and equipment manufacturing.

Through the construction and operation of the Atucha I and II and Embalse nuclear power plants, combined with life extension projects and the development of nuclear fuel cycle infrastructure, Nucleoeléctrica has accumulated extensive experience. In June of this year, the company completed its first international sale—supplying shielding plug assemblies designed for CANDU-type reactors to Candu Energy Inc. of Canada, marking the beginning of Argentine nuclear technology reaching overseas markets. Additionally, Nucleoeléctrica has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Romania to provide technical assistance for its nuclear power plants, further expanding its global influence.

Against the backdrop of accelerating energy transition and electrification, nuclear energy is regarded as a key force in ensuring the stability of the power system. Because nuclear plants can generate electricity steadily around the clock with low carbon emissions, they complement highly variable wind and solar energy well, helping to maintain the stability of national power supply.
