Typhoon "White Dolphin" Approaches Fujian-Zhejiang Coast, Ningde Nuclear Power Initiates Typhoon Emergency Deployment

According to the forecast of the Central Meteorological Observatory, Typhoon "White Dolphin" is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhoushan, Zhejiang to Fuding, Fujian between the night of August 9 and the morning of August 10, with an intensity of 12 to 14 levels at landfall, classified as a typhoon or severe typhoon.

Affected by this round of typhoon, Fujian has upgraded its emergency defense level. The Fujian Provincial Meteorological Observatory upgraded the "typhoon warning" to Level II at 9:00 on August 9, and the Fujian Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters upgraded the typhoon emergency response to Level II at the same time. Heavy to torrential rain is expected in northern Fujian from August 9 to 10, with localized extremely heavy rain. State Grid Fujian Electric Power has issued a Level III warning for typhoon and rainstorm, and activated a Level IV emergency response for typhoon, rainstorm, and flood disasters.

Ningde Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., located in Ningde, Fujian, has also entered a typhoon defense state. On August 8, Ningde Nuclear Power announced that the typhoon would pose severe challenges to the safe and stable operation of its units in service, the ongoing construction of the Phase II project, and the coastal facilities at the plant site.

According to information released by Ningde Nuclear Power, the Ningde Nuclear Power Base issued a white typhoon warning signal on August 3 and upgraded it to blue on August 7. The base subsequently conducted a comprehensive survey of on-site personnel, coordinated the deployment of 16 buses, and safely and orderly evacuated 1,075 non-duty personnel. Meanwhile, 780 emergency duty personnel from Ningde Nuclear Power and partner units were retained, ensuring that all personnel requiring evacuation were evacuated and emergency duty forces were in place.

Ningde Nuclear Power Station is the first nuclear power plant to commence construction after the release of the National Medium- and Long-Term Nuclear Power Development Plan (2005—2020), and is also the first nuclear power plant on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait, with plans to build six million-kilowatt-class nuclear power units.

Among them, Unit 1 was put into commercial operation in April 2013, and Units 2, 3, and 4 were successively put into operation between 2014 and 2016. The four units of Phase I were fully completed in July 2016. In July 2023, Units 5 and 6 of the Ningde Nuclear Power Phase II project received approval and are currently under construction.
