Norroy Bioscience's 68Ga-NYM096 Receives FDA Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track Designations

China-based Norroy Bioscience announced on August 19 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track designations to its radiopharmaceutical imaging agent 68Ga-NYM096. The agent is a PET imaging tracer targeting carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX), intended for imaging clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

According to the company, 68Ga-NYM096 is being developed as a non-invasive PET imaging tool to characterize renal masses detected by CT or MRI and to help distinguish clear cell renal cell carcinoma from other non-ccRCC renal lesions. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma is the most common subtype of renal cell carcinoma, accounting for approximately 70% to 80% of renal cell carcinoma cases. CAIX is highly expressed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, making it an important target for this imaging agent.

The company stated that 68Ga-NYM096 is the first innovative radiopharmaceutical developed in China to receive FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation. The designation is based on the potential demonstrated by its preliminary clinical data. The Fast Track designation will facilitate increased communication with the FDA during the drug's development and provide advantages for subsequent regulatory review, including eligibility for rolling review of a New Drug Application.

Peng Fang, founder and CEO of Norroy Bioscience, stated that the ongoing development of 68Ga-NYM096 has yielded encouraging clinical data supporting its potential in advancing the diagnosis and treatment of clear cell renal cell carcinoma. The company plans to initiate Phase I clinical trials of the agent in China and the United States in the near future, and expects to present additional clinical data at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine.
