Test vacuum established in turbine condenser of Unit 1 at Turkey's Akkuyu NPP

On August 25, test vacuum was established in the turbine condenser of Unit 1 at Turkey's Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. This operation verified the readiness of the main systems of the turbine unit, creating conditions for subsequent commissioning work.

Specialists from TITAN-2 Holding (TITAN-2) established the required vacuum in the condenser and checked the tightness of the vacuum system as well as the thermal and mechanical condition of the turbine. During the test, technical personnel continuously monitored key parameters such as steam pressure, bearing temperatures, thermal expansion of cylinders and rotors, and condenser vacuum level.

While the turbine was rotated by the turning gear, experts also verified the operational condition of the turbine flow path. Preparatory work for this vacuum test had been carried out over several days prior, and the test itself lasted approximately 6 hours, involving the bearing lubrication system, hydraulic jacking oil system, vacuum system, steam supply and exhaust systems, auxiliary boiler house, and other process systems.

A representative of T2IC (T2IC) stated that establishing vacuum is an important test before the turbine unit receives steam. To achieve this milestone, installation and commissioning of the lubrication system, hydraulic jacking oil system, vacuum system, and circulating water system had been completed on site, along with the activation of the turbine turning gear and preparation of the sealing system for steam supply. The test results showed that the operating parameters of the main turbine systems were within design limits, allowing subsequent start-up operations to proceed.

The next key task in the turbine building of Unit 1 at Akkuyu NPP is the generator air-tightness test. TITAN-2 Holding is affiliated with Rosatom and participates in multiple nuclear power construction projects in Russia and internationally, including Turkey's Akkuyu NPP, Hungary's Paks II NPP, and Egypt's El Dabaa NPP.
