U.S. NANO Nuclear and Enveniam to Advance Microreactor and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Cooperation
U.S. advanced nuclear energy company NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. announced on September 4 that it has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Enveniam, LLC, a project integration and engineering technology services provider, to explore cooperation in areas such as nuclear fuel cycle infrastructure, microreactor commercialization, advanced manufacturing, and end-user energy solutions.

Under the MOU, the parties will evaluate how to leverage Enveniam's experience in nuclear engineering, project integration, safety analysis, licensing support, project controls, operational readiness, and complex energy infrastructure development to support NANO Nuclear's ongoing reactor, nuclear fuel manufacturing, and transportation capability initiatives. The parties emphasized that any specific services, funding arrangements, project implementation, or commercial commitments would require separate definitive agreements.
Jay Yu, founder and chairman of NANO Nuclear, stated that this MOU connects two organizations with complementary capabilities across the advanced nuclear energy value chain. NANO Nuclear is building a vertically integrated platform encompassing microreactors, nuclear fuel, and transportation, while Enveniam brings relevant experience in integrating complex nuclear and energy projects.
Under the MOU, the parties intend to prioritize evaluation of six potential cooperation areas: first, providing engineering, safety, operational, and regulatory support for NANO Nuclear's high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) transportation systems; second, providing engineering design, criticality safety analysis, integrated safety assessments, and licensing strategy support for potential uranium conversion and downblending facilities; third, supporting siting, licensing, engineering, manufacturing, and deployment readiness for NANO Nuclear's KRONOS MMR energy system and its portable microreactor designs; fourth, providing project management and operational readiness services for nuclear fuel, fuel assembly, and microreactor module manufacturing facilities within the United States; fifth, providing strategic and compliance support for procurement, manufacturing, certification, transportation, and delivery related to the domestic fuel supply chain; and sixth, exploring electricity and process heat solutions for data centers, remote and off-grid communities, island regions, and other high-energy consumers.
James Walker, CEO of NANO Nuclear, stated that commercializing advanced nuclear technology requires not only reactor design but also licensing approvals, safety analysis, project controls, supply chain coordination, manufacturing planning, and operational readiness. Enveniam stated that it will evaluate how its engineering, project controls, licensing, safety, and operational capabilities can support translating relevant nuclear technologies and infrastructure concepts into executable projects.
The parties plan to establish a joint working group to periodically review potential commercial opportunities, identify projects that may require funding support, and study the possibility of jointly applying for U.S. federal or state government funding. The MOU does not require either party to undertake specific projects, provide services, commit funding, or conduct transactions; if specific cooperation is pursued in the future, the parties will need to execute formal documents covering scope, schedule, responsibilities, economic terms, intellectual property arrangements, and regulatory requirements.
In terms of end-use applications, the parties will focus on the demand for reliable electricity and process heat from data centers and other energy-intensive customers. The growth of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, advanced manufacturing, and electrification is driving up demand for around-the-clock power supply, also creating potential application space for advanced nuclear technologies such as microreactors.
The parties will also evaluate energy solutions for remote and off-grid communities, including scenarios related to Alaska Native organizations as well as island regions heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels. Potential applications include resilient power supply, district or industrial heating, seawater desalination, and hybrid energy systems combining microreactors with renewable energy. Any deployment remains subject to technical feasibility, stakeholder support, financing, licensing, and final project documentation.
NANO Nuclear stated that this cooperation also serves its strategy of developing critical domestic nuclear fuel cycle capabilities in the United States. Through its subsidiaries Advanced Fuel Transportation Inc. and HALEU Energy Fuel Inc., the company is advancing nuclear fuel transportation and fuel manufacturing capabilities to support its own microreactor projects and the broader advanced nuclear industry needs. Enveniam's experience in project integration, nuclear power operations, engineering, safety, licensing, supply chain management, and operational readiness may complement NANO Nuclear's work in fuel transportation, conversion and downblending, manufacturing, and production.
