First Emergency Diesel Generator Successfully Introduced at Unit 6 of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant
On September 4, 2026, the first emergency diesel generator for Unit 6 of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant was successfully introduced into the diesel generator building. The emergency diesel generator is a critical required power source during the cold test phase of a nuclear power unit. The successful introduction of this equipment ensured the availability of emergency power during the cold test period, providing a solid power guarantee for the smooth execution of subsequent cold test work for Unit 6.

The Installation Management Section of Lufeng Nuclear Power shifted from “passive waiting” to “proactive action,” planning the diesel generator introduction route in advance. The greatest challenge of this introduction task was the deep pit backfill adjacent to the main area of the siphon well on the west side of the diesel generator building, with a backfill depth exceeding 20 meters, a wide coverage area, and a graded aggregate demand of up to approximately 80,000 cubic meters. During construction, practical difficulties were encountered, including insufficient batching plant supply, construction restrictions during the rainy season, and expansion of the physical protection fence area. The task also involved coordinated operations among multiple organizations, including China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Co., Ltd., China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Co., Ltd., China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group, and China Construction Second Engineering Bureau, making construction conflicts and coordination extremely challenging.

In response to the above challenges, the Installation Management Section of Lufeng Nuclear Power took the lead in organizing special discussions on the diesel generator introduction passage, conducting over 10 on-site surveys and coordination meetings with more than 100 participants in total. A scientific backfill plan was developed, with daily progress tracking and timely corrective actions to ensure issues were resolved without delay and schedules were not delayed. Multiple construction conflicts encountered during the backfill process were actively coordinated and resolved, including high-voltage electrical utility trenches, essential service water drainage ditches, hydrogen pipelines on the northwest side of the hot machine repair workshop and warehouse buildings, and rainwater wells and pipelines in the essential service water drainage ditch. In response to the situation where part of the road on the west side of the hot machine repair workshop and warehouse was incorporated into the fenced area due to the expansion of the physical protection fence, rendering the original route unusable, proactive measures were taken to jointly readjust the route plan with all participating construction units. Through proactive coordination of resources from all parties, challenges including complex geological conditions, construction conflicts, and route changes were overcome one by one, and the introduction route backfill task was successfully completed on July 4. This not only provided a solid guarantee for the smooth introduction of the LHQ diesel generator, the critical power source for the cold test of Unit 6, but also effectively avoided installation schedule delays caused by inaccessible roads, significantly reduced subsequent construction risks, and cleared the “last mile” of the cold test power introduction route.

During the equipment introduction preparation phase, the installation team of Lufeng Nuclear Power proactively promoted the availability of the overhead crane and resolved issues such as concrete chipping of the diesel generator foundation, resin grouting, sand leveling at the entrance, and placement of protective steel plates, ensuring that all pre-introduction procedures were completed smoothly. The installation team actively coordinated with civil engineering, procurement, materials, and construction disciplines, and organized relevant contractors to conduct advance introduction rehearsals, clarifying responsible personnel, construction durations, and potential risks for each step, ultimately achieving the goal of “efficient introduction.” In addition, the team fully leveraged lessons learned from Unit 5, strictly controlling the temperature and humidity of the diesel generator hall through measures such as hole sealing and the addition of internal dehumidifiers, implementing preventive measures against the cylinder liner corrosion issue encountered in previous projects, and creating a favorable environment for equipment protection during the installation phase.
The successful introduction of the first emergency diesel generator for Unit 6 of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant is not only a breakthrough in engineering milestones, but also a vivid practice of the “proactive action” philosophy in a complex construction environment. Through this coordinated effort, the collaboration efficiency and emergency response capability among all participating construction units have been significantly enhanced, providing valuable experience for the organization of construction under similar complex conditions in the future, and injecting strong momentum into the high-quality construction of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant.
