Recently, U.S. nuclear technology startup Oklo announced that it will further advance the construction of the Groves-2 Forge isotope production and processing pilot facility. Located in Texas, the facility aims to build on the successful demonstration experience of the company's previous Groves Isotope Testing Reactor (Groves Isotope Testing Reactor) to comprehensively expand irradiation, processing, purification, and commercialization readiness capabilities for key isotopes.

It is understood that the Groves-2 Forge facility will integrate cutting-edge hot cell processing capabilities, covering the full process chain including isotope separation, product recovery, packaging, and transportation. The facility's initial production focus will be on lutetium-177 (Lutetium-177) used for cancer radiopharmaceutical therapy and other important therapeutic isotopes. Previously, the U.S. Department of Energy (Department of Energy, DOE) and the National Reactor Innovation Center (National Reactor Innovation Center, NRIC), through a selection program, helped Oklo advance the Groves Isotope Testing Reactor from a greenfield project to criticality in less than one year.

In terms of strategic planning and commercialization pathway, Oklo plans to continuously accumulate the operational and regulatory experience needed to move toward commercial-scale production by integrating isotope irradiation and post-processing capabilities at the Groves-2 Forge facility. Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte (Jacob DeWitte) stated that the rapid criticality of the Groves reactor validated the feasibility of efficient collaboration between the private sector and the U.S. Department of Energy, and that Groves-2 Forge will directly build on this to fill in the key capabilities of target irradiation and isotope refining.

It is reported that Oklo, backed by investment from OpenAI founder Sam Altman (Sam Altman), is simultaneously developing commercial nuclear fission power plants and advanced nuclear fuel technologies. Groves and Groves-2 Forge, as core components of its effort to build domestic U.S. isotope production capacity, will in the future produce isotope products that comprehensively support key areas such as cancer diagnosis and treatment, industrial manufacturing, cutting-edge scientific research, deep space exploration, and national security.
