Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Unit 109 Overhaul Successfully Concluded, Technology Empowers a Solid Safety Foundation
Recently, the Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Unit 109 overhaul was successfully concluded. During this overhaul, the maintenance project team of China Nuclear Industry 22nd Construction Co., Ltd. cumulatively executed 173 work orders (including 34 high-risk work orders), simultaneously covering two major areas—civil maintenance and pipeline anti-corrosion—spanning the National Day holiday, and fully ensuring the steady progress of all tasks with a professional team, laying a solid foundation for the safe operation of the plant.

It is understood that civil maintenance and pipeline anti-corrosion, as important invisible defense lines for ensuring the integrity of structures, are the fundamental guarantee for the safe operation of the unit. In this overhaul, the confined space operation of the underwater culvert of the PX pump house and the anti-corrosion lining repair of the ATE wastewater neutralization tank were key high-risk concealed works. Facing multiple challenges such as narrow working spaces, complex procedures, and safety control of cross-operations, the overhaul team prepared a comprehensive safeguard plan in advance, strictly controlled the implementation of construction plans, and successfully eliminated multiple hidden hazards in concealed works.
In terms of construction technology and management models, this overhaul fully introduced technology empowerment and digital management methods. In the water intake culvert inspection task, an intelligent underwater robot was adopted for the first time to replace traditional manual inspection, accurately identifying and quantitatively assessing underwater defects, thereby reducing safety hazards of high-risk operations from the source. Meanwhile, the project team used electronic work orders as a digital carrier to achieve closed-loop management of the entire maintenance process, and introduced a points-based management mechanism to quantify team performance, effectively stimulating the work enthusiasm of frontline workers.
In terms of whole-process support for the overhaul, China Nuclear Industry 22nd Construction Co., Ltd. established a party member assistance and safety-quality guarantee responsibility system through party building guidance and a joint party member task force mechanism, closely monitoring construction processes and key quality indicators. The team strictly adhered to the nuclear safety culture of “strict, cautious, meticulous, and practical,” ultimately achieving the overhaul objectives of “zero safety accidents, zero quality defects, and zero schedule delays,” laying a solid foundation for the safe and stable operation of the unit in the next phase.
