Research reactors provide critical support for global medical, scientific, and industrial innovation
The International Atomic Energy Agency recently reported that research reactors continue to play a vital role in medical, scientific, industrial innovation, and nuclear workforce development, serving as key infrastructure for many countries to build their nuclear science and technology capabilities. Currently, 228 research reactors are in operation across 54 countries worldwide, with another 23 under construction or in the planning stage. Unlike nuclear power reactors used for electricity generation, research reactors primarily produce neutrons for applications in medicine, industry, agriculture, geological sciences, forensics, and other fields. With capabilities such as neutron irradiation, neutron imaging, elemental analysis, and radioisotope production, research reactors have become important platforms for advancing peaceful nuclear technology applications. In the medical field, research...

South Korea's National Assembly Passes Amendments on Radiation Disaster Response, Strengthening the Treatment System for Radiation Victims
The South Korean National Assembly held a plenary session on the 20th and passed two livelihood bills proposed by Rep. Yoon Jun-byeong, a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs and Fisheries Committee. The bills concern the establishment of a radiation disaster response system and adjustments to the support system for surviving family members of national meritorious persons. Under the amendments passed, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute will be granted the qualification to operate as a specialized hospital for treating radiation victims. This arrangement aims to further improve the national medical safety net, enabling industrial radiation workers and victims of accidental radiation incidents to receive faster and more systematic treatment and rehabilitation support. Meanwhile, another amendment was also passed. This amendment, in accordance with the Constitutional Court's ruling of nonconformity, abolishes the provision that prioritized age as the sole criterion in the payment of survivor benefits to families of national meritorious persons of the same rank. After the relevant institutional adjustment, greater emphasis will be placed on safeguarding the rights of low-income households to reduce blind spots in welfare support.

Russia Marks 81 Years Since the Birth of Its Nuclear Industry: From the Soviet Nuclear Program to Modern Nuclear Talent Development
On August 20, 1945, the founding documents establishing the Special Committee and the First Main Directorate under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR were officially signed, generally regarded as the starting point of the Soviet nuclear industry system. Eighty-one years later, Russia's nuclear energy community once again looks back at this historical milestone, linking it to nuclear science and technology development and talent cultivation. In August of that year, after the United States used atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet Union accelerated the establishment of its own nuclear research and industrial system. On August 29, 1949, the Soviet Union completed the RDS-1 nuclear test. Thereafter, Soviet nuclear science gradually extended from military applications to peaceful uses, building the world's first grid-connected nuclear power plant and developing a fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers. The establishment of the nuclear industry system also drove...
