Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Meets ITER Organization Director-General

Starting at 4:50 p.m. on July 29, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi met with Pietro Barabaschi, Director-General of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organization, who was visiting Japan. The meeting lasted approximately 15 minutes.

Hayashi welcomed Barabaschi's visit to Japan. He stated that fusion energy has been listed as one of the 17 strategic areas in Japan's growth strategy. Japan looks forward to progress in the ITER project and believes it will play a significant role in advancing the realization of fusion energy and enhancing energy security. Hayashi also reiterated that Japan will continue to participate in and support the ITER project.

Barabaschi briefed on the current progress of the ITER project and thanked Japan for its long-term cooperation. He stated that he will continue to promote the steady implementation of the project.

The ITER project is a large-scale international cooperation initiative aimed at building and operating the ITER nuclear fusion experimental reactor to validate fusion energy from scientific and technological perspectives. Fusion energy is regarded as an environmentally friendly and sustainable form of energy. The ITER reactor is currently under construction in Saint-Paul-lès-Durance, France.
