"Nuclear-Solar Complementarity"! CGN Ningde 200MW Offshore Solar Project Achieves Full-Capacity Grid Connection
According to China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), on July 31, the CGN Ningde 200MW offshore solar project achieved full-capacity grid connection and power generation. This project is one of the mobilized offshore solar projects in Fujian Province and also CGN's first "nuclear-solar co-siting" offshore solar project, holding significant demonstration value for promoting the green transformation of the local energy structure, building a new energy system, and driving the region to create a zero-carbon demonstration park.

Located within the water area of the Ningde nuclear site in Tailaoshan Bay Village, Fuding City, the project utilizes the marine resources surrounding the nuclear power base to achieve three-dimensional development of "nuclear-solar complementarity." The total site area is approximately 3,020 mu, with an installed capacity of 200MW, supported by a 20MW/40MWh backup system. Over the 25-year operational period, the project is expected to deliver an average annual on-grid power output of approximately 300 million kWh, equivalent to saving about 91,300 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 198,000 tons annually.
The project's 220kV transmission line spans a total length of 12 kilometers, serving as the key corridor for power delivery, with the cross-sea section featuring towers as tall as 138 meters, making them the tallest power transmission towers in the eastern Fujian region and a new green energy landmark standing proudly over the sea.
"During the project construction, to address industry challenges such as complex offshore conditions, susceptibility to corrosion of traditional all-steel support structures, and high construction and maintenance costs, we established a technology platform for offshore solar pile-support systems and successfully completed technical breakthroughs including 'large-diameter giant concrete pipe piles' and 'lightweight new-type support systems.' This effectively enhanced the load-bearing capacity and long-term anti-corrosion performance of the pipe piles, reducing the overall construction cost of pipe piles and supports on the relevant platform by over 10%, and delivering a replicable and scalable independent offshore solar construction solution," said Wu Cheng'en, Manager of the Engineering Management Department of CGN New Energy Fujian Company.
The CGN Ningde 200MW offshore solar project has achieved three-dimensional and intensive utilization of marine resources, exploring a synergistic pathway for nuclear and solar power complementarity. Moving forward, CGN will continue to deepen its efforts in the "nuclear-wind-solar-storage" multi-energy complementarity field, contributing the "CGN solution" to achieving the national "dual carbon" goals and building a new energy system.
