India's First Elekta Evo Installed at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for Online Adaptive Radiotherapy

Bengaluru, India – Manipal Hospital Yelahanka has become the first healthcare facility in India to install Elekta Evo, Elekta's AI-enhanced adaptive CT linac platform, which will support clinical teams in delivering online adaptive radiotherapy for more personalized and precise cancer treatment.

The system was previously showcased at AROICON 2025, India's radiation oncology conference. According to data from the Indian Council of Medical Research, India records an estimated 1.46 million new cancer cases annually, with radiotherapy demand continuing to grow. For patients with complex conditions or those presenting at advanced stages, radiotherapy techniques that can adapt treatment plans in response to changes in tumor and surrounding anatomy during the course of therapy are becoming increasingly important.

Manipal Hospital stated that the introduction of Elekta Evo has strengthened its radiation oncology capabilities, bringing adaptive radiotherapy into routine clinical practice. The hospital has completed its first treatment of a patient with locally advanced rectal cancer using online adaptive radiotherapy on the Elekta Evo platform. The patient, who received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, experienced minimal radiation-related side effects, demonstrating the potential of daily adaptive therapy in precisely targeting tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.

Dr. Vikram Maiya, Chief Consultant in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Manipal Hospital Yelahanka, stated that the platform enables physicians to adjust treatment plans based on anatomical changes during the patient's treatment course, supporting more personalized treatment decisions. The hospital has initiated treatments for patients with rectal, cervical, and prostate cancers, with treatments progressing smoothly and minimal treatment-related side effects observed to date.
