2026 Special Training Course on Radiation Safety Practices for Nuclear Technology Utilization Held in Xi'an
To thoroughly implement the Ecological Environment Code and further enhance radiation safety management in the field of nuclear technology utilization, the "2026 Special Training Course on the Application of the Ecological Environment Code and Radiation Safety Practices for Nuclear Technology Utilization," hosted by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the Center), was successfully held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, from July 27 to 30. Nearly one hundred trainees from 67 institutions nationwide, including ecological environment departments, research institutes, medical facilities, and EIA compilation agencies, gathered together to study the new regulations and discuss practical matters, empowering the industry's high-quality development.

This training closely followed the pulse of industry development, focusing on the new situations and challenges facing radiation safety management in the field of nuclear technology utilization after the implementation of the Ecological Environment Code. The curriculum was both forward-looking and practice-oriented, systematically reviewing the key institutional changes and application points following the Code's implementation, providing in-depth interpretations of six ecological environment standards including the "Regulations for Radiation Safety and Protection of Particle Accelerators" (GB5172-2025) and the "Technical Guidelines for Ecological Environment Impact Assessment - Decommissioning of Nuclear Technology Utilization Projects" (HJ1479-2026), and precisely explaining the application methods for the list of major changes in nuclear technology utilization and the classification of radiation-generating devices, offering professional guidance for trainees to deeply grasp the essence of the new regulations and scientifically understand the standards. The training effectively empowered regulatory authorities to perform their duties with precision and enforce laws in a standardized manner, guided operating entities to achieve compliance and prevent risks, assisted EIA compilation agencies in improving the quality of EIA documents, and consolidated the theoretical foundation for routine and standardized radiation safety protection in nuclear technology utilization.
During the training, the classroom atmosphere was vibrant, with enthusiastic interaction between instructors and trainees. Based on their respective institutions' practices in nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, and the production and use of radioactive isotopes and radiation-generating devices, trainees actively raised questions and engaged in in-depth discussions, fully exchanging views with instructors on difficulties and uncertainties encountered in their work. The interactive model of "teaching benefits teachers and students alike" promoted the deep integration of theory and practice, effectively enhancing trainees' comprehension and application capabilities regarding the new regulations and standards.
The successful holding of this training not only helped participants promptly update their knowledge systems and deepen their understanding of the Ecological Environment Code and related standards, but also provided strong support for various institutions to standardize their radiation safety management practices and improve compliance levels. In the future, the Center will continue to organize such special training courses, continuously optimizing course content and teaching formats, and is committed to providing more professional and precise technical support and policy interpretation services to nuclear technology utilization institutions nationwide, helping China's nuclear technology utilization industry advance steadily along a law-based and standardized path.
