Samsung and Accuray Plan Collaboration on Image-Guided Precision Radiation Therapy
Samsung Electronics' medical device business and Samsung Medison continue to shift their business focus from medical diagnostics to treatment. On August 5, Samsung HME America and U.S. radiosurgery company Accuray announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent to explore collaboration on volume imaging-based precision radiation therapy solutions.

Under the letter of intent, the two parties plan to study the integration of Samsung's mobile CT scanner "BodyTom" with Accuray's robotic radiosurgery platform "CyberKnife." This collaboration direction aims to connect high-resolution 3D imaging capabilities with image-guided robotic radiosurgery technology, enabling medical staff to more accurately confirm the patient's treatment area and surrounding tissue, and thereby optimize radiation dose delivery and treatment decisions.
Samsung stated that this collaboration is part of its core strategy to advance next-generation medical imaging technologies under development from precision diagnosis to precision treatment. Yoo Kyu-tae, head of Samsung Electronics' medical device business and CEO of Samsung Medison, stated that by combining Samsung's imaging technology with Accuray's experience in radiosurgery, the two companies will work to develop high-precision personalized treatment plans that reflect patient anatomical characteristics and changes during the treatment process.
The two companies also plan to present the collaboration direction and technology vision at the American Society for Radiation Oncology Annual Meeting in September.
Previously, in April of this year, Samsung strengthened its collaboration with U.S. company HistoSonics to promote real-time integration of high-end ultrasound diagnostic devices with the tissue destruction therapy system "Edison" to advance precision image-guided treatment. The collaboration with Accuray further demonstrates that Samsung Electronics' medical device division and Samsung Medison are entering treatment-related medical device markets such as radiation therapy by expanding their original diagnostic business structure.
