Polar Crane of Unit 1 of Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Expansion Phase I Project Officially Available

On August 12, the load test of the polar crane for Unit 1 of the Expansion Phase I Project was successfully completed, with all performance indicators fully meeting design requirements, marking that the polar crane is officially ready for use and creating favorable conditions for subsequent key tasks such as the introduction and positioning of main equipment in the nuclear island.

The polar crane is the core lifting equipment in the reactor building, undertaking critical lifting and handling tasks throughout the entire lifecycle, including heavy equipment hoisting during the construction phase, refueling during shutdown and equipment maintenance during the operation phase, and equipment dismantling during the decommissioning phase. Its operational stability and reliability are directly related to the safety and quality of nuclear island installation. The success of this load test fully verified that all performance indicators of the equipment completely meet the standards for safe and reliable use.

During the installation and commissioning of the polar crane, the company established a dedicated integrated team for polar crane installation and commissioning, built a normalized cross-departmental communication and collaboration platform, removed bottlenecks at the interface between installation and commissioning, and coordinated the overall progress of key tasks including polar crane installation, system commissioning, and load testing. The polar crane installation commenced on December 22, 2025; the ring beam and circular rail hoisting was completed in March 2026; all component hoisting was completed in April; and the load test was initiated in July, with all inspections at each stage passing on the first attempt.

The official availability of the polar crane is another significant achievement in the nuclear island installation of the Expansion Phase I Project, fully demonstrating the company's comprehensive capabilities in large-component hoisting organization, multi-disciplinary coordination, and integrated installation and commissioning management. It also accumulates valuable experience for the first engineering practice of the "Hualong One" technology in the northern region, which is of great significance for ensuring the safety and quality of nuclear island installation and promoting the continuous improvement of Huaneng's nuclear power construction capabilities.
