"Frontier Workshop on Nuclear Structure and Reactions" Successfully Held at the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

From July 18 to August 1, the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences hosted the "Frontier Workshop on Nuclear Structure and Reactions." Funded by the Special Fund for Theoretical Physics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the workshop attracted 89 young faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students from over 30 universities and research institutions nationwide. Twenty-one experts in nuclear physics were invited to give lectures, totaling nearly 80 class hours.

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of East China Normal University, Professor Ma Yugang; Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor at Tsinghua University, Zou Bingsong; Director of the Institute of Modern Physics, Professor Sun Zhiyu; and representative lecturers Professor Ye Yanlin and Professor Yang Xiaofei from Peking University attended the opening ceremony.

Professor Sun Zhiyu expressed gratitude to all the invited lecturers for their support and welcomed the participants from across the country. He introduced the recent progress of the Institute of Modern Physics and the construction of large-scale scientific facilities at the Huizhou campus, encouraging young participants to consolidate their professional foundations, emphasize the integration of theory and experiment, and broaden their research horizons and strengthen collaboration through learning and exchange. Professor Zou Bingsong, on behalf of the Leading Group of the Special Fund for Theoretical Physics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, introduced the background, funding objectives, and the important role of the fund in advancing theoretical physics development and nurturing young talents in China, while also expressing high expectations for the participants. Professor Ye Yanlin encouraged the participants to cherish this intensive learning opportunity, engage actively in discussions, think deeply, and continuously broaden their academic horizons and enhance their research capabilities.

The workshop offered courses covering nuclear structure, nuclear reactions, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear matter theory, and frontiers of nuclear physics experiments, integrating fundamental theories, experimental methods, and research related to major scientific facilities. The invited experts delivered systematic lectures based on the forefront of disciplinary development and their own research practices. Participants actively raised questions and engaged in in-depth discussions around the course content and their respective research directions, and completed course study reports as required.

The workshop received strong support from the Southern Center for Nuclear Science Theory. The successful organization of this workshop provided a platform for young nuclear physics researchers to systematically learn fundamental disciplinary knowledge, understand frontier developments, and engage in in-depth exchanges. It further strengthened communication and collaboration among young researchers in fields such as nuclear structure, nuclear reactions, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear matter, and experimental research, and holds positive significance for cultivating young nuclear physics talents and promoting interdisciplinary integration in related fields.
