Akkuyu NPP Unit 2 Completes Installation of Four Main Pump Sets
The four main pump sets of the technical water supply system at the onshore pumping station of Unit 2 at Turkey's Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant have been installed. Specialists from TITAN-2 Holding completed the installation, marking new progress in the construction of the turbine island cooling system for this unit.

These large centrifugal pumps will be used to deliver seawater to the condenser cooling system of the turbine units. Once the unit is in operation, the continuous and stable operation of the pump sets will directly affect the cooling efficiency of the turbine hall equipment and influence the operational stability of the turbine units.
According to reports, these pump sets are among the larger pump equipment at the nuclear power plant, with each pump standing as tall as a five-story building. The equipment is arranged in a tiered layout, with the lower part of the pump bodies installed 21 meters underground and electric motors with a rated power of 6,500 kW each positioned 5 meters underground. This design helps enhance the equipment's resilience to external impacts such as floods and tsunamis.
After Unit 2 is commissioned, the four main pump sets will have a combined maximum pumping capacity of up to 260,000 cubic meters per hour, equivalent to the volume of approximately 100 Olympic-standard swimming pools.
Deputy Project Manager Nikolai Apalkov stated that this installation represents an important stage in the construction of the plant's hydraulic structures. The construction team drew on the experience from the first pumping station, adjusted the design solutions, and further clarified site and structural preparation requirements. Pre-configured standard overhead cranes were also used during this installation to improve operational safety and construction efficiency.
TITAN-2 Holding is a Russian nuclear power facility construction enterprise group whose business covers design documentation, construction and installation, electrical engineering, and facility commissioning. The company has participated in the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and is involved in or contributes to projects including new units at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, Hungary's Paks II Nuclear Power Plant, and Egypt's El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
