General Fusion Announces Business Update: LM26 Plasma Heated to Approximately 0.72 keV

General Fusion released a business update on August 18, disclosing its latest progress in fusion energy technology validation, commercial partnerships, and financing arrangements. The company went public on Nasdaq in July 2026 under the ticker symbol “GFUZ”.

General Fusion stated that it entered the public market with approximately $150 million in cash following the completion of its business combination with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III. The funds include net transaction proceeds from private placement and trust capital, and are planned to support the Lawson Machine 26 (LM26) project and drive the completion of multiple established technical milestones by the end of 2028.

On the technology front, General Fusion said the LM26 project has made progress on key objectives for the next phase. Using its technical approach of compressing plasma with a lithium liner, the company has heated plasma to approximately 0.72 keV, equivalent to about 84 million degrees Celsius. The company views this achievement as an important step toward 1 keV, 10 keV, and ultimately meeting the Lawson criterion, which is commonly used to assess whether a plasma possesses the combination of parameters required to produce net fusion energy.

On the commercial partnership front, General Fusion announced a framework agreement with Renexia SpA, a subsidiary of the Toto Group, to collaborate on advancing the commercial deployment of General Fusion's energy technology in Italy. The company stated that the agreement lays the groundwork for expanded collaboration between the two parties during the commercialization phase.

General Fusion is also expanding its technology ecosystem through a partnership with General Atomics. The collaboration focuses on advancing plasma diagnostic technology in the second phase of the LM26 program, used to measure plasma temperatures exceeding 10 keV, equivalent to approximately 100 million degrees Celsius.

General Fusion Chief Executive Officer Greg Twinney stated that the company's Nasdaq listing marks a significant milestone for both General Fusion and the fusion industry. He noted that advances in plasma physics, high-performance computing, advanced manufacturing, and digital controls, combined with global demand for clean, reliable baseload power, are creating conditions for fusion technology to move toward commercial application.

Twinney said General Fusion's magnetized target fusion approach aims to advance practical fusion energy through a relatively simplified machine architecture that leverages existing industrial materials and supply chains. Over the past two decades, the company has continuously conducted testing on demonstration systems and published peer-reviewed research results to reduce technical risk and advance the commercialization process.

According to the plans announced by General Fusion, the company will focus in the near term on advancing plasma electron temperature to 1 keV, while continuing to progress toward 10 keV and the Lawson criterion. Concurrently, the company will expand commercial partnerships, supply chain collaborations, and strategic alliances across the energy, industrial, engineering, and technology sectors to support site selection for future demonstration devices and commercial-scale fusion energy systems.
