Expansion Project Advances at Centrus Energy's Uranium Enrichment Facility in Piketon, Ohio

Centrus Energy said on August 24 that Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel, JobsOhio CEO J.P. Nauseef, along with state, federal, and local stakeholders, visited the company's uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio, to discuss the development of the U.S. domestic nuclear fuel supply chain and Ohio's role in it.

In September 2025, Centrus Energy announced a multi-billion-dollar expansion of the Piketon uranium enrichment plant, and work on the expansion has now begun. The company stated that the project aims to restore and expand U.S. domestic uranium enrichment capacity and support the development of the nuclear fuel supply chain.

According to information disclosed by the company, the Piketon expansion is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs and 300 new operational positions in Ohio, while retaining the facility's existing 150 jobs. The project is also seen as part of Ohio's advanced manufacturing and workforce skills development system.

Centrus Energy is a U.S. supplier of nuclear fuel and related services, primarily serving the nuclear power industry. The company said it has provided fuel supply services to utility customers for more than 1,850 reactor-years of operation since 1998. The company is also advancing high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) production and plans to expand low-enriched uranium (LEU) capabilities.
