Bangladesh Science and Technology Minister Meets Russian Delegates to Advance Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Grid Connection
Bangladesh Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam met with Andrey Rozhdestvin, General Director of Rosatom Energy Projects JSC, a subsidiary of Russia's Rosatom, in Washington, D.C., USA, on August 27. The two sides held bilateral talks on the construction progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and subsequent grid connection arrangements.

The talks focused on the overall construction progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, acceleration of remaining work, and the technical and coordination measures required to deliver power from the unit to Bangladesh's national grid as soon as possible while adhering to established procedures. The two sides also discussed nuclear fuel supply, energy cooperation, and other related topics.
Anam stated that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will play a significant role in meeting Bangladesh's growing electricity demand, ensuring energy security, and promoting long-term sustainable development. He emphasized that all project stakeholders need to further strengthen coordination to ensure the remaining work is completed promptly and in accordance with regulations.
Rozhdestvin briefed on the progress of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project and expressed Russia's willingness to maintain close cooperation with Bangladesh to advance all phases of the project according to the established plan.
The meeting also covered peaceful uses of nuclear energy, nuclear power technology cooperation, professional personnel training, and further strengthening of energy cooperation.
