UK Poll Shows Nuclear Power as Respondents' Top Choice for Future Power Source
A latest YouGov survey commissioned by Eland Cables shows that the British public broadly supports the development of renewable energy, but many respondents remain skeptical about its ability to independently deliver low-cost, stable power supply. Among priority options for future power sources, nuclear power ranks first with 21% support, higher than solar power's 19% and offshore wind's 18%.

The survey results show that 47% of UK respondents support the construction of nuclear power plants. However, when nuclear projects are set to be built locally in respondents' areas, the support rate drops to 38%, reflecting a disparity in acceptance of nuclear projects at the national versus local level.
Regarding renewable energy, 64% of respondents hold a positive attitude toward it, while only 12% hold a negative one. 44% of respondents believe the UK's transition to renewable energy is progressing too slowly, compared to 18% who think it is happening too quickly.
Despite the relatively broad support for renewable energy, the survey also shows that respondents still have concerns about its long-term reliability. 51% of respondents do not believe that renewable energy can deliver affordable energy costs within the next 10 years; likewise, 51% doubt whether renewable energy can generate enough electricity to meet the UK's future demand.
The survey indicates that in discussions about the UK's future energy mix, public attention is shifting from simply supporting low-carbon energy to issues such as power supply reliability, energy costs, and energy security. As a result, nuclear power is viewed by some respondents as an important option for the UK's future power system.
