Cancer Hospital of the First Hospital of Jilin University Established, Granted Configuration Permit for Heavy Ion Radiotherapy System
Recently, the 7th Bethune Conference on New Advances in Cancer Treatment was held in Changchun, Jilin Province. The conference coincided with the 80th anniversary of Jilin University and the 20th anniversary of the Cancer Center of the First Hospital of Jilin University, aiming to establish a high-level academic exchange platform and promote the continuous improvement of cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities in the three northeastern provinces. During the conference, the inauguration ceremony of the Cancer Hospital of the First Hospital of Jilin University was also held.

According to reports, the newly established Cancer Hospital will, based on the coordinated development of the original Cancer Center, integrate three advantageous disciplines—oncology, hematology, and radiation oncology—further improve the multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment model, promote smoother connections in cancer diagnosis and treatment processes, and enhance comprehensive treatment capabilities for difficult cancers. The conference also announced that Li Wei, Director of the Cancer Center of the First Hospital of Jilin University, was appointed Honorary Dean, and Cui Jiuwei, Director of the Oncology Department of the First Hospital of Jilin University, was appointed Executive Dean.
Regarding the layout of heavy ion radiotherapy, the First Hospital of Jilin University was granted the configuration permit for a heavy ion radiotherapy system by the National Health Commission in February 2024. Previously, in September 2019, Jilin Yatai Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd., the First Hospital of Jilin University, Jilin Jilong Industrial Co., Ltd., Guoke Ion Medical Technology Co., Ltd., Changchun High-tech Venture Capital Group Co., Ltd., and other entities signed a "Framework Cooperation Agreement" to carry out cooperation centered on complementary advantages and the construction of Jilin Province Bethune Heavy Ion Cancer Hospital. In April 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the China-South Korea (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone Great Health Industrial Park and Heavy Ion Hospital project.
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" and "14th Five-Year Plan" periods, a total of six medical institutions in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces received configuration permits for heavy ion and proton radiotherapy systems issued by the National Health Commission. In addition to the First Hospital of Jilin University, these include Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, the First Hospital of China Medical University, Jilin Provincial Cancer Hospital, and Changchun Cancer Hospital.
