Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research Joins Arab Atomic Energy Agency

Recently, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) was approved to join the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) to strengthen Kuwait's cooperation with Arab and international institutions in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Dr. Habiba·Al-Manea, KISR's National Liaison Officer to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and member of the AAEA Executive Council, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that this membership will strengthen technical and scientific cooperation, promote the exchange of expertise, and help develop Kuwait's national capabilities in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.

It is reported that Habiba·Al-Manea met with AAEA Director General Dr. Salem Hamdi in Vienna, Austria, where the two sides explored ways to strengthen Kuwait's cooperation with the agency, particularly in the exchange of expertise, national capacity building, and utilization of AAEA technical and training programs for Arab countries. The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in scientific and technical fields of mutual interest, and reviewed Kuwait's experience in managing its nuclear energy program, as well as the support and development it has received in the field of peaceful nuclear applications.

Habiba·Al-Manea stated that this cooperation reflects Kuwait's active participation in the Arab and international nuclear framework and its continued commitment to IAEA activities, and also highlights Kuwait's dedication to benefiting from technical cooperation and capacity-building programs in nuclear science and technology and their peaceful applications. She said that Kuwait places particular emphasis on cooperating with specialized institutions to promote the transfer of expertise and skills, cultivate national personnel, and expand the applications of nuclear technology in areas such as healthcare, environmental protection, agriculture, water resources management, and nuclear safety and security.

It is understood that Habiba·Al-Manea emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination between Kuwaiti institutions and the AAEA, believing that this will pave the way for broader technical cooperation and expertise sharing, while supporting Kuwait in developing an advanced national nuclear science and technology system and its peaceful applications. She reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to strengthening its presence in specialized international forums and drawing on the experience of Arab and international experts to support scientific research, development, and national capacity building. Previously, the membership document was held by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and has now been transferred to KISR.
