Westinghouse Places First AP1000 Module Orders with Polish Companies
Recently, Westinghouse Electric Company announced during the 4th Nuclear Power Industry Congress held in Warsaw that it has formally placed conditional purchase orders for nuclear safety-related modules with four Polish domestic companies, marking a substantive step forward in the localization of the supply chain for Poland's first nuclear power plant.

According to the plan, Poland intends to build three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Choczewo, Pomerania, in northern Poland. After Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) approved the launch of long-lead component orders for the first unit last week, the four Polish companies that received conditional orders this time include: Energomontaz-Polnoc Gdynia SA (EPG), FAMAK SA, Mostostal Kielce SA, and Mostostal Krakow SA. They will respectively be responsible for the manufacturing preparation work for the CA02 wall module, CA03 module, CA05 wall module, and CA20 floor module.
It is understood that these safety-related modules are important components of the AP1000 design. For example, the CA02 and CA03 modules form the core of the in-containment refueling water storage tank, while CA05 and CA20 are used respectively for the interior protective wall and to support internal equipment. Westinghouse stated that once these companies complete the manufacturing of pre-production qualification models in the process of steadily advancing to fully comply with the NQA-1 nuclear quality assurance standard, full project contracts will be formally awarded.
The Lubiatowo-Kopalino nuclear power plant is planned to officially begin construction in 2028, with the first unit expected to enter commercial operation in 2036, and the entire plant is expected to achieve full-load operation in 2038. Dan Lipman, President of Global Business Development at Westinghouse, and Marek Woszczyk, Chairman of the Management Board of PEJ, both pointed out that this move will not only strongly ensure the project advances on time and within budget, but also lay a solid foundation for Polish industry to deeply integrate into the global AP1000 supply chain.
