EDF's Performance Declines as Nuclear Plants Affected by High Temperatures

EDF faced pressure in its first-half results, with net profit down 4.4% year-on-year to €5.2 billion. Despite an increase of approximately 8 TWh in French nuclear output, revenue still fell 3.3% to €57.45 billion. The company's half-year EBIT stood at €14.1 billion, with total electricity generation of 262.1 TWh, of which French nuclear plants contributed 189.9 TWh. Meanwhile, EDF also bore an additional €500 million in taxes, mainly related to the contribution on excess profits. Recently, the technical seminar on performance testing of iodine adsorbers in nuclear facilities, hosted by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") and organized by the Key Laboratory of Radioactive Gas Purification Technology of CNNC, was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. Representatives from domestic nuclear facility operation, design, testing and inspection organizations, as well as relevant personnel from the Center's Reactor Department, Event Assessment Department, and General Operations Department attended the meeting. Factory Acceptance Test Completed for TM020 RF Cavity of Super Tau-Charm Facility

The 500MHz TM020 normal-conducting RF cavity, a key component of the STCF accelerator constructed by Lanzhou Taiji, passed its factory acceptance test on July 28, 2026. This marks a significant milestone in the key technology research project for the Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF), a new-generation electron-positron collider led by the University of Science and Technology of China. The review meeting brought together experts from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Advanced Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chongqing University, Tsinghua University, the University of Science and Technology of China, and Dongsheng Fusion (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd. The expert panel conducted a comprehensive and rigorous review of the RF cavity (a 1200mm large-diameter cavity), including its structural design, secondary vacuum brazing, precision machining methods, vacuum performance, and cold test results, and unanimously agreed that all indicators met the design requirements. The measured unloaded quality factor (Q₀) reached 56900 (design value 61500), placing its performance at a leading level among similar high-performance normal-conducting RF cavities in China.

On November 14, 2025, Huang Chuangtao, an engineer from CGN Intelligent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote report titled "AI Empowers Anti-Counterfeiting in Safety, Quality, and Environment Fields" at the AI + Nuclear Energy Innovation Application Industry-Economy Roadshow of the Shenzhen Nuclear Industry Expo. The report introduced the application achievements of using AI to enhance anti-counterfeiting for certificates, qualifications, and quality certification documents in the nuclear power industry. The system employs a layered architecture, multimodal recognition, collaboration between large and small models, and dual verification via QR code links to identify deep counterfeiting, such as simultaneous forgery of certificate content and websites. This solution has completed the verification of over 7,000 certificates, intercepted 17 cases of counterfeiting, and plans to build a traceable quality trust system combined with blockchain.
