Strengthen Regulation of Fusion Devices, Empower the Development of New Technologies
Recently, the South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) conducted a radiation safety supervision inspection of the J-TEXT tokamak fusion experimental device at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. As the only medium-to-large tokamak experimental device at a university in China, J-TEXT bears the important mission of fusion talent cultivation and frontier physics experiments. The South China Regional Office focused on key aspects including equipment operation, radiation protection, and authorization management, meticulously investigated safety hazards, verified the implementation of safety management systems, and urged Huazhong University of Science and Technology to promptly plug safety loopholes and standardize device operation procedures, effectively building a strong defense line for the safe and stable operation of fusion experimental devices, providing solid support for the orderly conduct of scientific research experiments...

South China Regional Office Conducts Special Nuclear Safety Inspection on Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant in Response to Extreme Weather
Since 2026, the coastal area where Fangchenggang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located has experienced frequent extreme weather events. During the passage of Typhoon Maysak in July, the maximum gust measured on site at the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant reached Force 9, with cumulative rainfall during the event reaching as high as 424.2 mm; in August, affected by the peripheral circulation of Typhoon Zitan, the area once again suffered sustained heavy wind and rain, with localized cumulative rainfall exceeding 300 mm. In response to the severe climatic situation of superimposed strong typhoons and short-duration heavy rainfall, the South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Inspection of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) recently took the initiative to...

South China Regional Office completes pre-critical nuclear safety inspection for Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant overhaul
From September 14 to 17, the South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) organized an inspection team to conduct a pre-critical nuclear safety inspection of Unit 5 of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant for its sixth refueling overhaul (Y506 overhaul). This inspection was jointly carried out by the Nuclear Facility Business Division and the newly established Operation Special Division, adopting an organizational model of two-division coordination and complementary expertise to systematically verify the safety status of the unit after refueling and before criticality, thereby safeguarding the critical juncture for the safe startup of the unit. The criticality of the unit after overhaul is a link in the nuclear safety management chain where risks are highly concentrated. With core refueling and loading completed, and maintenance, modification, and periodic testing items concluding in a concentrated manner, equipment status, personnel operations, and operational decisions converge at this point. The South China Regional Office closely focused on the core proposition of "whether the unit truly possesses the conditions for safe operation," concentrating on key contents such as operating limits and conditions, availability of safety-important items, confirmation of post-maintenance equipment status and periodic test results, closed-loop rectification of outstanding issues from the previous overhaul, and handling of abnormal conditions, insisting on item-by-item verification and one-by-one clearance to ensure that no doubts are carried forward and no loose ends are left.

South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Conducts Special Typhoon and Flood Prevention Inspection at Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant
Currently, Hainan has entered the peak season for typhoons and heavy rainfall. Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant, having just withstood the test of Typhoon Maysak, has been hit by continuous heavy rainfall, posing叠加 challenges to on-site safety production from extreme weather. Facing the complex and severe situation, the South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) took proactive action and rose to the challenge, promptly organizing a "look-back" special inspection on typhoon and flood prevention work for Units 1 and 2 of Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant. Through comprehensive, multi-level rigorous supervision, the systematic and standardized nature of the operator's natural disaster response work was once again verified. Focusing on key links, consolidating responsibilities. To prevent and mitigate flood season safety risks at the source...

South China Regional Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Conducts Unannounced Special Inspection on Typhoon and Flood Prevention at Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base
To effectively strengthen the safety production defense line during the flood season, reinforce the primary responsibility of operating entities for typhoon and flood prevention, and prevent and mitigate nuclear safety risks posed by extreme weather such as typhoons and heavy rainfall, the South China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) recently conducted an unannounced special inspection on typhoon and flood prevention at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base. After Typhoon Hongxia, some buildings at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base experienced issues such as roof leakage and water seepage. This inspection focused on the aforementioned weak links, conducting on-site verification of key critical points including the diesel generator buildings, the open intake channel for the cold source, and the combined pump house one by one. The inspection team went deep into the production frontline, meticulously examining equipment operating conditions,...

South China Regional Office of the National Nuclear Safety Administration Conducts Special Supervision and Inspection of Changjiang Units Under Construction
As the South China region enters the main flood season with concentrated typhoons and heavy rainfall, nuclear facilities face significant pressure in resisting meteorological disasters, and safety control responsibilities are critical. To rigorously prevent nuclear safety risks triggered by natural disasters during the flood season and to reinforce the primary responsibility of operating entities for safety production, the South China Regional Office of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (hereinafter referred to as the South China Regional Office) made advance deployments and carried out a special supervision and inspection of typhoon and flood prevention for the Changjiang units under construction in an unannounced manner. This inspection comprehensively verified the effectiveness of control measures, tightened the primary responsibility of the operating entity, and effectively built a safety barrier for nuclear facilities during the flood season. Inspectors went deep into the construction sites of Units 3 and 4 of the Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant and the small modular reactor demonstration project, focusing on checking nuclear...
