North China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Conducts On-Site Supervision of Main Pump Shaft Design and Manufacturing at Shanghai Electric KSB Nuclear Pump and Valve Co., Ltd.

To continuously enhance the localization quality of active equipment such as main pumps and the effectiveness of key technology improvements, the North China Regional Office of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision (hereinafter referred to as the North China Office) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently conducted on-site supervision of the wet winding main pump shaft design and manufacturing activities at Shanghai Electric KSB Nuclear Pump and Valve Co., Ltd.

This supervision focused on the quality reliability of design improvement measures for main pumps, conducting detailed inspections on the standardization of design change processes, verifying key processes such as material acceptance, heat treatment, and hot sleeve assembly, with particular attention to the correlation between improvement measures and root cause analysis, the effectiveness of improved processes, and the compliance of various inspection and test results. It also required the licensed entity to further refine the main pump engineering endurance test plan based on complex operating conditions of nuclear power plants and feedback from past issues, detail performance indicators, solidify test items, and quantify acceptance criteria, ensuring that this improvement effectively guarantees the safe operation of main pumps at nuclear power plant sites.

In the next step, the North China Office will continue to leverage the advantages of the equipment supervision system and the professional capabilities of the team, focusing on the research and development and commissioning processes of new reactor types, new units, and new equipment, as well as design changes and technical improvements of key equipment. It will accurately identify new risks and challenges during the batch construction of nuclear power and the iterative upgrade of equipment localization, further deepen collaborative coordination with various units in the nuclear power industry, improve the working mechanism for joint problem resolution and risk prevention, and consolidate the foundation for safe nuclear power operation through high-level equipment supervision.
