Huaneng Nuclear Energy Research Institute Conducts First Specialized Training on Hualong One System Principles

To enhance the Institute's technical support services and scientific research capabilities regarding Hualong One technology, and to strengthen employees' systematic understanding of Hualong One, Huaneng Nuclear Energy Research Institute organized training on Hualong One system principles, completing the first specialized session on August 12. A total of 101 company leaders and employees participated in the training through a combination of “online + offline” methods.

The first training session reviewed China's path toward independent development of pressurized water reactor technology from an industry development perspective, systematically outlining the global evolution of nuclear power technology and the safety design criteria for Generation III nuclear power. By benchmarking against mainstream Generation III reactor designs such as the US AP1000 and European EPR, the session provided in-depth explanations of Hualong One's dual safety architecture design principles combining “active + passive” safety systems, as well as key technical features including a reactor core with 177 advanced fuel assemblies, a large-volume double-layer containment, and comprehensive severe accident prevention and mitigation measures, highlighting its competitive advantages of high safety margins, mature technical systems, and independent controllability of core equipment.

The training was closely aligned with actual job requirements, effectively consolidating employees' theoretical foundations and providing solid theoretical support for scientific research, technical support, and on-site operations and maintenance. Going forward, the Institute will conduct nuclear power system principle training every two weeks, completing the full training program in 18 sessions totaling 36 class hours, continuously enhancing the team's capabilities in scientific innovation and full-lifecycle technical services, and empowering the high-quality development of Huaneng's nuclear power industry with technological and talent advantages.
